How To Volunteer
During the summer of 2014 I volunteered for the Boys And Girls Club which was located at Mary Ward (3850 Finch AV E, Scarborough, ON M1T 3T6). The dates I volunteered at this program was in early July of 2014 for two weeks. I decided to volunteer at this organization because I was willing to help children tackle problems that they faced. As well, I enjoyed assisting children to develop skills and knowledge that they needed in order to reach their full potential. During my time of volunteer at the Boys and Girls club my role was to take care of children and help them with whatever they needed. I also helped set up various activities such as sports and games. In addition, I dealt with several conflicts between the children and made sure that …show more content…

The pro was that it gave me a chance to be in charge of something. For the past two weeks I was in charge of making sure the children were safe and doing what they were suppose to be doing, and the leaders there were to decide what activities we were going to do each day. In addition, it made me more responsible as a person, and it was an eye opener as it made me realize how difficult it was to look after so many children. A con of volunteering at this organization was that it was very stressful. Most of the time the children did not co-operate and listen to what I told them to do. With that said, I had to constantly make sure that they were behaving, and it was especially difficult when we went to outdoor places, away from the community centre. I had to ensure that none of the children were separate from the group and got lost.

My volunteer work relates to the Civics course, because I was responsible as a citizen, such as helping children around me in the community. I assisted in providing a safe learning environment for youth. For example, I had to always make sure that no one was hostile to each other, and made sure that everyone respected each other. In addition, I taught them various skills, such as teaching children how to read and write. As well, I taught them how to play sports. Overall, I helped with their academic education which is crucial for a positive

Another situation that I was made aware of was that families needed food and it surprised me to realize that there were kids in need of food that lived near me. I come from a fairly wealthy town and had not realized that there were so many families that lived near me in need of food. I cannot imagine being a young child and have to worry if my mom or dad was going to be able feed me dinner. This experience made me realize how important it is to donate to the local food pantry. Citizenship will be very important in my career because if you want to get good publicity for a business it is important to help the community. Citizenship will be even more important to me as a person because volunteering has a way of making me feel like I am helping making a positive change. When I get into my career I plan to donate to food pantries often because this experience made me realize that not all people have the means to support themselves. I actually plan to start volunteer at the food pantry in the summer because they seemed like they could use some help and the volunteers were very gracious that I was helping them out. I learned through this project that not…

The components of citizenship, community service, academics, work and home life, and extracurricular actives help me shine as a well-rounded individual. As an involved and caring citizen in the Union Township community, I do my best to make my mark. Displaying a good role as a citizen through community service has been a value I possessed ever since I could remember. At a young age, I started to serve my community with my parents at both school and church events and it has stuck with me since. Through community service such as being an assistant teacher in St. Veronica’s Religious Education Program, Glen Este High School’s member of National Honors Society, and Key Club, I not only helped out Union Township but I have also made new relationships and feel good about myself. Community service always makes me feel better because I know I’m helping others and making my mark through the friends I have made through both of these service programs.…

The most rewarding work experience that I have had was to work as a volunteer for the International office at Northern Virginia Community College. Personally, I considered volunteering responsible work because it requires time effort and commitment. Working as a volunteer with the International Office was meaningful to me because I was able to assist so many students in achieving their dream of obtaining an American college education. I was able to help the International Students and to give them a better understanding of the resources that NOVA offers to international students. Furthermore, my responsibility was to arrange student get-togethers and in so doing build a sense of community and cohesion. My purpose for volunteering was to assist international students, many of whom are away from home with very little support at a very young age, with making a smooth transition in to a new coulter. This is particularly important to me because I am a dual citizen of America and Pakistan and understand the difficulty of assimilating into a new culture.…

I have had experience volunteering with the Urdd, supervising groups of primary school children at Glan-Llyn; where another member of staff and I were responsible for a group of children while they took part in various activities. Each Tuesday morning for the last year, I have volunteered at Ysgol Gynradd Cemaes at the Infants' department, where I helped the children with their work and spent time with small groups of children on specific tasks. During my time volunteering at Ysgol Gynradd Cemaes, I also spent time with pupils who suffered from learning difficulties, and this helped me to see how certain tasks have to be adapted in order for pupils of varying abilities to succeed. I have also played a large part in the process of transferring pupils in my school's catchment area from primary school to secondary school, by volunteering as a Year Twelve buddy, providing a point of contact at the school for the pupils if they felt in any way uneasy or upset. I was also part of a group of Year Twelve students who ran an arts club for pupils from years 3-9 where primary school children were introduced to the school and some of its current pupils and students through a series of arts and performance workshops. Through…

Hunger has always been a serious issue and still is today. Many people experience food insecurity and feel shameful when going to food pantries or seeking assistance. We can reduce the negative stigma associated with food pantries in numerous ways. First spreading awareness of the need for food pantries will help change the stigma as people realize that the need is real. Then educating the public on the number of people in need of the food pantries because of their struggle with food insecurity will show how prevalent the need has become. Most of all volunteering in food pantries is a firsthand way to get involved and reduce the negative feeling associated with the need for assistance. These few things will be a great start in reducing the…

The Boys and Girls Club of America helps thousands of Americans each year as a daycare, escape from home, way to meet new friends or to eat a sustainable meal that they wouldn’t be able to get at home. Another way that the Boys and Girls Club benefits kids is by having organized sports where the players can develop competitiveness, teamwork and become coachable. As someone who volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club I am able to experience all of the good that goes on both within and outside of business hours. As I wrap up my high school career and go on to the next stage in my life I often find myself looking back at not only those who helped shaped me into the person I am today but also the extracurricular activities I participated in. The Boys and Girls Club is one thing that continually pops into my head with the activities I partook in as well as the children and adults alike, without these experiences I would not have devolved my love for basketball, been so willing to give back to the community, or have been showed the do’s and don’ts of parenting.…

I am spending my time volunteering at St. Marks United Methodist Church (St. Marks UMC). This church is an open community, working to create a comfortable atmosphere for anyone and everyone in and around the area. I work specifically with the youth of the church and I reach out to students who are my age or younger than me. I have been volunteering at St. Marks for almost four years, assisting in many different groups and organizations sponsored by our church. I volunteer at this church because it has given me an opportunity to be myself, explore talents, and make strong connections, and I want to help continue this effort and reach out to kids who are struggling with a lot of the same difficulties I faced. I believe that volunteering here is a great experience for someone studying psychology because you meet and get to know many kids who are facing various issues in their lives.…

The Corperation of National Community Service found this statistic that volunteering and being involved in the local government can give you 27% higher odds of finding a job rather than non-volunteers. When I finish High School I might have 27% higher odds of getting a job because I have met my civic responsibilities. I have met my civic responsibilities by going to school board meeting, babysitting for the parents of Parent Teacher Organization and working the PTO Fun Run, and I learned even the small things make a difference.…

Throughout all my hours working on my senior project which is volunteering at the Kids Unlimited after school program, I have achieved many duties that include being responsible for children. By doing that I had to show the kids how to be respectful, responsible and safe.
