How To Write A Short Story Of A Coach
Richard: Mike, first of all, I'd like to talk to you about your extensive exposure and experiences with leadership. You grew up in an Air Force family your father was your force legend and everything you told me just documents that he was a leader par excellence. You were not only an athlete at the Air Force Academy but you were a very valuable athlete as well as a team leader. You coach soccer everywhere from the club level all the way up to the college level as a successful coach in an addition to military and academic leadership. You've demonstrated successful leadership behaviors at the corporate law. You're the only one person that stands above all those other leaders it's you. Had it inspirational that that has helped you probably more so than others that you where you work today.
Mike: Yes that's a great question. You know I

Professor X. professional soccer player coaches who then really took an interest in me Coach Vince Hart and Coach Oscar Ferreyra one being from England and one being from Argentina. But again the care that they showed toward me at the time they spent with me basically. Put me on this path this is now I hate soccer for the rest of my life and you know they introduce to me a game that I just never seen played that way play that level that kind of passion and I remember Oscar. You know when I was that I trained under Oscar he was my club coach and you know here was a guy who was so good and he played so beautifully and I just really ignited the passion in me but I think we have a lot of people have coaches like that. You know who given good. Good examples of what good looks like and that but I think Oscar went the extra

“I have no idea that being a professional soccer player will ever be a career option- I think it would be cool to be an FBI agent- but even as a little girl, I take soccer seriously. Nobody ever has to tell me to practice, because it is all I want to do” (Lloyd and Coffey 2). Many people have had one person who has inspired them. They have changed their life very much the first day that they met. The person who has changed my life in the past couple years was my softball coach. She had us all work as hard as we could everyday. My junior year of high school my school softball coach expressed to me that I would never be as talented as the starting varsity catcher. I was sixteen years old and of course I thought I could handle anything that was thrown at me; i felt invincible. After that season of softball that fall, I knew I would never be the same. My coach had changed something inside me and I could never go back. I had felt a sense of failure that I had never felt before. From that point on I told myself that I was going to be the best cardio thoracic surgeon this world had ever seen. I know that everything happens for a reason, because I know that God has a Plan. God put my coach in my life to better prepare me for the future. My coach made me feel like I was…

I recently had the honor of interviewing someone in our community who has had more than thirty years of leadership experience in our community. The interview ended up taking much longer than I expected because I was so influenced by what he had to say, I did not want to miss anything. Mr. Kevin Henderson started his career as a cook back in the 60's for the Jolly Ox (Steak & Ale) restaurant. His leadership abilities were quickly realized, and he was promoted to Store manager. From there he moved on to the Shoney's Restaurant Corporation where he remained for twenty five years serving as a regional supervisor, and finally working his way up to the President of the Steak House Division of Shoney's. This consisted…

Down in the locker room, one of my favorite coaches looked at my team and stated, “I’m sorry. I will not be returning next year to be your coach.” I sat there almost in tears, because at that moment my love for basketball almost left with him. Billy Martin was a favorite coach of mine. He loved each of us like one of his own, and treated all of us the same. He wanted each of us to succeed and would do anything to help us reach that. Coach Martin instilled in me no matter how talented a person was, you could always beat them by working hard. I could not believe he would not be my head coach next year, but he did soften the blow by saying he would still be around until we were use to our new head coach. We were all very upset about his department…

I was sitting in my freshman geometry class, talking to some friends about injuries. We were talking about how none of us have ever gotten injured in our entire life. I had been playing sports since I was in the sixth grade, and nothing ever happened. In my life I had never broken a bone. I had never even sprained an ankle. I had never worn any kind of brace, taped an ankle, or talked to a trainer about any muscle issue or pain issue. When kids would lay on the court, I always thought they were fine or looking for a little attention. My thought was that they needed to rush off the court because they were dripping sweat all over the hardwood floor, and they were taking too much time up. I used to assume they were killing our momentum when they would fall down and cry because some schools…

Soccer has been a huge part of my life since I was young. Ever since I can remember, I’ve joined the school soccer team when I was given the option. Of all the years I was involved in soccer, my high school freshman year was the most memorable. Due to my advanced skills, I was put in the senior soccer team, a feat quite difficult to accomplish for any incoming athlete. That year our school hired a highly experienced coach; he made our school team feel like a real discourse community. Unlike other coaches I’ve had before, his knowledge and wisdom of the game of soccer surpassed that of anyone I’ve met. From the very first day of try-outs, I felt like I was part of a professional soccer team. Running back and forth across the soccer field, my classmates and I were working hard to impress the new coach, as he was just hours away from picking his team players. Little did I know I was in for an experience of a lifetime.…

It was a Friday night in mid August 1991. I was a noseguard and middle linebacker on defense, depending on the play. I also played right guard on the offensive line. This is the story of a night that could of well ended any hope of being an athlete, on any level, from this point on. I will be telling the story from the defensive side of the ball, due to that is where I was playing when I had five vertebrae, slightly, separated.…
