Personal Narrative: My Softball Coach
Many people have had one person who has inspired them. They have changed their life very much the first day that they met. The person who has changed my life in the past couple years was my softball coach. She had us all work as hard as we could everyday. If we didn’t put in our best effort for a drill, she would have us start over and do it again. Coach Tash was motivated, committed, and helpful to everyone on the team.
Throughout the softball season, Coach Tash motivated all of us everyday whether it was at practice or in the middle of a game. She told us that we should want to get better everyday. She always wanted us to leave better players and competitors at the game then when we came. Coach Tash is also a soccer coach. She says the same things to the soccer players that she coaches. After every game, we would all go in the

If someone had a question, she could answer it and help them with it. Tash had us do things over again everyday until we had it muscle memorized. One day someone told Tash that it was insane to have us to things over and over again and Coach Tash said a quote that one of her former coaches told her, “Insanity is doing something over and over and over again, and expecting a different result.” If someone made an error during a game, Tash wrote down who made the error and talked to them after the inning was finished and what they could have done to help prevent the error. If you are sitting for an inning, Tash has us run to the end of the field and back so we are ready to go in. Everyone had something that needed improving and Tash was helpful to show us what we were doing wrong and how to fix it.
At the end of the season she told all of us that she was proud of how much effort we put into the game. We had become a better team throughout the season and bonded well together. Each of us improved at something whether it was batting or fielding. She continues to inspired me

He says, “Patience. It’s one of the hardest things to learn as a coach, to be patient, because it’s a very difficult sport, it is not one of your typical ball sports,” Randy says, describing how unique this sport is and how much patience a coach needs to have with the girls, the fact that they are young, and that they can make their bodies flip through the air, it is just a sport you really need to have patience with. Randy also says, “...and sometimes, you lose your patience, but that’s the thing, you got to, ya know, try and keep a level head about you when the time requires you be a little more stirn,” Randy really shows the difficulties that a coach goes through, it isn't a typical sport when you hit a ball, nor kick a ball, and when you miss you say oh I will get it next time, this sport is more a mental sport than an athletic sport, and that’s why a coach really needs to have patience. Because all the girls have the ability to do what they want, but the difficult thing is if they are mentally able to let themselves do…

“You did not make the softball team” is a sentence I heard almost invariably. I had just moved to Texas, where I was thrust into a whole new world of sports. Athletes played year round, unlike the north where sport seasons were only six months long because of the cold, likewise, the competition was unlike anything I had ever seen. I tried out for over a dozen teams, from the very best to the very worst and did not make one. Inevitably, there was always a girl who was faster, stronger, and overall better than I was. I was eventually given a choice, to quit softball and pursue another hobby or continue to play softball and refuse to let others beat me. I choose the ladder.…

As I hear those words that I most deeply despise come out her mouth, it quickly led me to think that this woman did not know what she was talking about. Before she had said these words we were talking about our favorite sports and she said hers was basketball and I told her mine was baseball. “Baseball is boring to watch,” she said. Hearing someone say this about my favorite sport that I have been playing throughout my life irritates me and it brings my attention to wonder why people find this sport boring. People similar to this woman, believe that baseball is a boring sport yet they do not realize that it is actually one of America’s most exciting sports!…

One sport that got my eye was baseball my senior. I love the feeling of having to be out on the on the field saying nothing but chewing gum or spitting out sunflower seeds. Having to make quick actions that can win or prevent the enemy from scoring. Having to go up to bat I always had a game face. If I took a swing and would miss I would close my eyes in failure to ashamed to look at my coach and team. However if I had got a base hit I would run not looking anywhere but to the base…

In baseball there is an enigma of a pitch called the knuckle ball, which is very difficult for batters to hit because the the ball moves unpredictably in different directions. Often time it feels like life is like trying to hit a home-run off a knuckle ball. When this happens, When life throws us something unexpected we must learn to adapt and respond appropriately.. I learned this when first entering choir as a sophomore with the firm notion that being a bold and strong leader was always the best way to be. Life was about to pitch me a crazy surprise.…

It is the bottom of the ninth and I was last at bat. The ball came zooming towards me at a high rate of speed. The vibration of metal meeting leather rang out in my hands. No hesitation was made. I dropped the bat and ran as fast as I could to first base. My coach was telling me to keep going because the ball was fumbled. I rounded third base and my coach motioned for me to take it home with a slide. Down I went. Dust was flying. The crowd was standing and cheering loudly as the referee motions and yells, “Safe!” All I heard was screaming as dust still loomed the air around me. I could manage to see my team going wild, jumping, and screaming. Everyone seemed to be celebrating except me.…
