When the Napoleonic wars began, both Britain and France tried to stop the United States from trading with the other. The Treaty of Ghent was the treaty that ended the war and was signed on December 24, 1814 In the negotiations nothing was resolved, American backed down on their demand for a British renunciation of impressment and the Canadian borders remained the same. As seems as though the war was fought in vain, no one gave up or gained anything. This was the last war in which America was the underdog and the British would no longer try to invade it.
