Introduction
As part of the syllabus for HRM/326, Employee Development, Consumer Behavior, the class was asked to write a paper on our current organizations focus, goals, and training needs and how they relate to the overarching goals and the effect the organizations goals have on training priorities. Additionally this paper will cover prioritizing specific training needs and why the organization must consider the goals based off of needs and focus. Listed below are the topics broken down by category:
What is the organization’s current focus?
The current focus is the acronym EDGE. EDGE stands for Educate, Develop, Grow and Evolve
What are the organizations overarching goals?
To be the Provider of choice for flexible education, training and learning solutions that respond to customer needs and improve workplace performance in support of the Department of Defense.
What are the organization’s training needs?
Develop and implement curricula in the fields of language, cryptology, education and business management.
How do they relate to the overarching goals?
These training needs directly impact the overarching goals. Without quality training, there are technical fields that would fail without having properly trained personnel.
What effect does the organization’s focus and goals have on prioritizing the type and amount of training?
The effect is directly tied to the focus and goals. All employees are required to have an individual training plan (ITP). All required training is added to the ITP, which kicks off a notification to the supervisor who has to approve the training. Once approved, it goes to a database that automatically notifies the curriculum managers of enrollments, this allows them to future plan for classes based off the number of employees signing up for classes.
