18 February 2013 When the question is asked to cast a film version of the timeless classic Huckleberry Finn, there is no easy answer. Especially when attempting to keep the actors current. But I believe that I have compiled a list of the highest quality, most likely actors to the best of my ability. Chandler Canterbury, Bob Sapp, Zachary Gordon, Christian Bale, Liam Neeson, Susan Sarandon, and Chloe Grace Moretz as Huck Finn, Jim, Buck, Huck’s dad, Colonel Grangerford, the widow Douglas, and Emmeline Grangerford respectively. Chandler Canterbury as Huckleberry Finn. Canterbury is a fourteen year old actor from Houston Texas who has played in films such as Knowing and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and television series such as Fringe and Criminal Minds. He also plays as Jamie Stryder in the upcoming release of The Host. Canterbury has also played in many other movies. He has been nominated for four Young Artist Awards, and won one for his work on Criminal Minds. I chose him because of his acting abilities, as well as his appearance. The fact that he is from Texas gives him a southern accent, which works well for this story. The ages are also very close, and the role of Huck is an easy one to play. Bob Sapp as Jim. Sapp is a tall, very muscular man. He is thirty-nine years old, and stands at six foot, five inches tall, and weighs in at three hundred thirty-nine pounds. He is a professional actor and fighter. His most famous role is as the football player Switowski in the remake of The Longest Yard. Jim is an uneducated slave, and Switowski is also uneducated, which Sapp played very well. I imagined Jim as a larger man, which Sapp fits perfectly. Although he hasn’t had extensive work, I believe Sapp could handle the role well. Zachary Gordon as Buck. Gordon is a fifteen year old actor from Oak Park, California. His largest roles to date are as Greg Heffley in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. In the book,

Huckleberry Finn is a unique character, especially for considering his resourcefulness for his age. With Huck being about 13-14 years old and being able to think on the spot, make legitimate realizations, and find solutions to issues that some adults may not be able to find, prove his potential. For example, Huck is a quick thinker, when he stumbled upon the Grangerford’s property and he created the George Jackson story, it proved his ability to adapt to a difficult situation and find a solution for it even at a young age. Huck was raised under considerable circumstances, but he always finds a way to stay fed, rested, and on top of a situation, many of his peers would struggle in his position and probably would not be able to last as long as…

Signs that Huck does believe that Jim is a regular do not take long to come up though, the first sign we see is when we find Huck on the island just out of town in which he ran off too. He then finds Jim also there, puzzled he does ask him what business he has doing there. Jim is hesitant to answer knowing Hucks old relation to Miss Watson and worried that he will turn him in. Though after making him swear that he will not say anything, Jim confesses to him why he is there. He explains to Huck his fear of being moved down south and not being able to ever see his family again and because of that he just had to leave. Obviously Huck is shocked by this, but still tells Jim not to worry that he certainly will keep his secret as promised. "Well, I did, I said I wouldn't and I'll…

Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn tells the story of Huck Finn, a young redneck boy, who finds friendship in a runaway slave named Jim, despite his own racist background. Though Huck and Jim bond throughout their journey, Huck struggles to overcome the way he was raised and see Jim as a person capable of feelings and emotions. Throughout his journey down the Mississippi, Huck is faced with challenges where he must decide Jim’s fate, but as his bond with Jim grows stronger, he begins to unlearn the racist views he was taught. Heart plays an important role in everyday life, but for most, mind powers over heart. In a corrupted society it’s hard for a young voice to stand out over all the rest, but for Huck, his one voice was heard. Huck puts his heart before his mind when it comes to making decisions and essentially, it is the foundation of Huck and Jim’s relationship. Huckleberry Finn shows that a pure heart can overcome a deformed conscience when the individual goes against society’s beliefs and allows his conscience to reform over time. “A discriminating irreverence the creator and the protector of human liberty” (Twain).…
