Question: What are ethical issues related to human cloning?
Answer: Cloning is one of the most modern and important technique in the field of biotechnology and modern sciences. Since its inception, many organisms have been successfully cloned such as sea urchins, the famous sheep Dolly (1996), mice and cows. Basically, through this technique, the genetically identical copies of the desired organism are produced. Some organisms can produce naturally through cloning. It is a type of asexual reproduction in which there is no union of gametes involved. It mainly involves nuclear transfer. Experimentally, in this technique, the nucleus from the fertilized egg is removed and …show more content…
The resulting offspring would be the identical copy of the donor organism. This is the somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). The famous sheep Dolly was cloned through this technique. Although, it was not an easy going experiment and scientists have had to make many laborious attempts, one embryo survived out of hundreds and Dolly was produced. With this successful attempt, scientists came up to the idea of human cloning and in a short period of time, this idea became an importantly debated issue. Human cloning is literally the production of similar copies of a human being who are also genetically identical. Cloning becomes a seriously considered issue especially when it comes to cloning of humans. The probability of human cloning has sparked controversies in the recent years. There are many ethical issues which are related to human cloning including both moral and social concerns. Human cloning has been an anger arousing and polarizing topic among the societies and its effect on next generations have made this topic controversial. Many countries have passed laws and bills that prohibits human cloning. No doubt, this technology has opened doors to
