Human Trafficking has been a growing problem throughout history and across the globe. It has been regarded as a modern form of slavery that has been linked with illegal immigration. This issue is a growing concern and has been reviewed and debated upon by many individuals regarding its origin and where the concern lies today. A recent article called "Human Trafficking: A Call for Global Action" written by Alyaksandr Sychov in the Globality Studies Journal, indicated the growing global concern for this issue as the numbers are raising and the plan of action that the global institutions are putting into play. The article discuses the emergence of human trafficking, which begins with a historical perspective on the subject. Trafficking in humans has been common in history and represents a continuation of the practice of slavery. The author explains how ancient civilizations, for example, the Hellenic, Persian, and Roman Empires, were partially based on slavery, however, it wasn't until Europe's Middle Ages and Early Modern Era did it finally explode. It is evident that slavery enabled the extensive development in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. The article then discusses how it wasn't until after the Civil War when slavery was eradicated in the United States, that the new form of human trade was established. The new form however, was linked to sexual and labor exploitation of "white" people. The main difference between that and the colonial human trade was that the latter was government-sanctioned. Since then the increase in human-trafficking has been phenomenal and has led to the unification and co-operation of nations throughout the world. Many organizations have been developed however, with the geopolitical realities brought upon by Wars, for example the Cold War, the matter of human trafficking receded into the background.
