Part A – What are the advantages and disadvantages of social media?
There are several advantages and disadvantages to social media. The advantages of social media is that you can create a social buzz about your products and services and get people interested in your business without spending a lot of money on advertising. With all of the forms of social media available you can start by giving bits and pieces of information out and getting people interested and talking about your business and building up to more information and really have people talking about your products and services. When someone likes or follows your page all of their friends get a notification about it and it will draw their attention to your page as well. You can link all of these different sites together so that they are directed to more information about your products and services and include videos, pictures, coupons, specials or whatever you want to offer to your “fans”. This can really help to bring people in and keep them interested in what you have to offer. You can also interact with your potential customers directly and respond to questions and concerns instead of them having to look the information up themselves. There are also disadvantages to exposing yourself through social media. If someone has had an issue with your products or services they can lash out through social media and say things to degrade your company and that could have a negative impact on sales of your products or services. Social media can make you or break you in this day and age and you have to be involved and market yourself, your products and your services wisely to maintain a good reputation.
