MAID OF HONOR SPEECH by General Purpose: To Entertain
Target audience: Wedding Guests
Specific Purpose Statement: To know how great of a person my sister is and how happy I am for her.
Main point/thesis statement: To honor my sister and her new husband on their wedding day. INTRODUCTION
Hello…hello….hello. Good afternoon everyone. For those of you that don’t know me, my name is Christina and I’m the bride’s most wonderful younger sister. When my sister first told me she was getting married and she wanted me to be her maid of honor. I said to myself….”oh man…That is gonna be a lot of work!” Because we all know my sister and how very picky she is. But of course I expected and look at you now! BODY
I.
My sister likes to remind me every so often that she is the older one and that she is always right. But we all know the truth (haha) A. From the start my sister and I have always been thick-as-thieves. Where she went I would always follow. Of course with any friendship you have good times and bad times. 1. Getting smacked in the face with a snow shovel 2. Pushing me on the swings so hard and fast that I fell off. transition: But I can only thank you for those memories because it has made you into the beautiful person that you are.
II. Ash I have never met a person with a more beautiful heart than yours. A. You would do anything for anybody and that is what makes you so amazing. B. You are always giving back. 1. At my wedding we of course had too much food. We didn’t think anything about it and were just going to toss it out. Then Ash comes in and says I found a homeless shelter that will take the food. I’m truly blessed to have you as my sister and best friend. transition: Four years ago when you told me you had met someone you were glowing.
III. I knew right then and there that you and Chad would be walking down the aisle one
day. A. The first time I met Chad it was honestly awkward. HAHA 1. I’m always hard on who my sister dates. So it was nothing but silence at first. 2. Then Chad started talking and I couldn’t get a word in. Usually that is the other way around.(haha) From that day on I knew you were a pretty good guy and I approved transition: Ash and Chad, you have spent 4 years getting to know each other and finally taking the plunge.
CONCLUSION
So in conclusion I would like everyone to raise a glass for Ashley and Chad. Today we toast to you both and we are all very happy for the both of you. I love you both and congratulations. CHEERS
