Nala
Every single one of my baby pictures include her. I’m not sure if it’s just because she’s my sister or because she’s been there for me since I could remember. Yes, her teenage hormones and my irritating adolescence was a problem before. Now, however, I can’t think of anyone else I’d eat pizza and scare pigeons with.
“ Sisters function as safety nets in a chaotic world simply by being there for each other.” –Carol Saline. My sister, Marissa, is the most intelligent and brutally honest person I will ever know. She’s 5’1 and scared of eyeballs, but university level Chemistry doesn’t stand a chance against her. Her persona influenced me to speak my mind and not let people take advantage of me. Marissa’s strong will, made the person who is writing this essay. I know this sounds very cliché but she has literally been there for me through

She’s my sister, of course I care about her. However, people love her simply because she’s Marissa. Others describe her as a loving and caring person. She would do anything for anyone if they needed her help. More so animals! She once stopped on the world trade bridge because there was a stray dog! Marissa is infatuated with a rescue dog she adopted named Nala. Nala has a face only Marissa could love. She also helps and feeds my grandma who has alzheimer’s. She has a lot of patience for others in need. Which is something very few people have. Marissa constantly volunteers from the kindness of her own heart. Many people have been touched with her caring and loving heart. People are immediately impacted when they meet her.
Having a sister is having a best friend for the rest of your life. A sister is someone who will love you no matter what and vise versa. I will love and protect her at any risk. I would give her the last mozzarella stick if it means she’ll be happy. I don’t know what I did to deserve her but I am forever grateful for god giving me such a beautiful human

The short stories “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst and “My Brother’s Keeper” by Jay Bennet are both realistic examples of family dynamics and how they can affect the way siblings treat each other. “The Scarlet Ibis” demonstrates how older siblings tend to feel the need to assist or help their younger siblings in things they cannot do, often leaving the younger siblings codependent on the older siblings for everything. In comparison, “My Brother’s Keeper” demonstrates how trauma can lead to siblings leaching to each other and becoming reliant, more often one more than the other. Even when two people are not siblings but are close, one person can become codependent on the other, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is the prime example of this.…

Growing up I never understood why my sister and I were so different, at least in my dad’s eyes. The most painful thing was I knew that he loved my sister more than me. When I was bad I got a beating; when my sister was bad, I still got a beating. My mom would always be there to save me even though she knew it would cause a huge fight with my dad. Fortunately my mom was a smart woman and she divorced my dad.…

His sister was one of the only lights in his life. Even though he noticed his parents generally paid her little attention compared to himself, that only made him love her more, as if to love her enough for what everyone else didn’t. Unlike him, she wasn’t homeschooled. He would often help her schoolwork and they spent much of their time together, but even then he was more of a loner by nature. He had no friends of his own and wouldn’t get close to those of his sister, even as they were introduced to him. He always felt more comfortable like that.…
