Hello Mr. O, I am Ashley, the Nurse Educator and I am here to explain your recent diagnoses, Hypertension to you. Hypertension means to have high blood pressure. A considerably healthy blood pressure would be between 110/70 to 120/80. A blood pressure 140/90 and above is considered a high blood pressure which causes hypertension. High blood pressure is when the force of blood pushing through your arteries is at a high rate. Hypertension is a very dangerous disease especially because it has little to no symptoms. It is most common in men than women, in people the age of 65 and old and is more common African-Americans. Hypertension can cause other medical issues as well, that is why it is extremely important to treat it right away. The Homeostatic imbalance or negative feedback system that causes hypertension is that when the heart beats too fast or too hard the blood pressure increases. For example, if you are out jogging or running you are causing you heart to work harder which makes your blood pressure go higher and that can lead to other health problem such as a heart attack. The major organ involved with this disease is the heart. The heart creates force as it pumps blood through your arteries.
