Hypothesis is a preliminary assumption or a tentative explanation that accounts for a set of facts, taken to be true for the purpose of investigation and testing; a theory. In this research paper, we are trying to figure out what are the probable causes of Math anxiety as well as the possible solutions regarding this matter. We came up with the following:
1. Teacher Factor
This simply means that a teacher has an effect on how a student grows or understands Math itself. There are times that if a student doesn’t like his/her teacher in Mathematics, he/she will not study well. His/her desire to learn new things is just suddenly fading. But if a student likes his/her teacher in Math, he/she will participate in class and is eager to know more.
2. Past generations/ older years or levels
Students from the previous year/level can affect the mentality of the students younger than them. If this will happen, the students will set their minds or have this certain mentality that the subject Math is difficult causing students to get lazy and be bored.
3. Pressure and Stress
Some parents want their children to be top achievers in school causing them to persuade their children study even more. Because of the mentality that math is hard, other parents pressure their children to study math in order to pass. This causes children what you call stress. Sometimes when the students can take it anymore, they rebel against their parents, teachers and the like.
4. Stereotypes
Stereotype is an oversimplified standardized image of a person or group. This affect the performance of a person in what he’s doing because he has this idea that if he belongs to this group of people that are not good or doesn’t do in this area, he will suck or fail too.
What we are trying to do is resolve this matter and give them a better understanding about Math anxiety, its causes and the possible solutions. We want to initiate parents that they shouldn’t pressure their children causing them to be
