Stereotype are assume characteristic assign to groups of people involving gender, race, national origin and other factors. Everyone one way or another has been stereotyped. They can be correct and be incorrect as while. Majority of the time its use in a negative and harmful way. We can all be held responsible of stereotyping at one point or another. Stereotypes affect people’s social lives, emotions, and how people interact with their environment. This could affect individuals who perhaps like different things or do different activities, but feel ashamed of doing so because of stereotypes. This mistaken belief could cause problems such as discrimination. The overarching problem with stereotypes is that they limit how we perceive others in society.
As I tune in myself and watch some the garbage on t.v or even listening to the radio has negative influences everywhere. Lately the media has really been focusing on the police brutality on African American people Going so far a putting it on prime time news. Whether or not the media wants to admit they have liberally of changing some of these stereotypes. The violence they are putting on television is ridiculous. Our children see nothing but violence or fantasy. The attention it getting is enormous, people are protesting having celebrity and some leaders finally speak up. So it’s up to us to choose what we believe and how we interpate what we watch and listen to. We us can change a negative stereotype in to something positive. As community we have to suck together through good and bad. Show children that there more than rap music Jordan and play basketball.
