In elementary and junior high school, I always enjoyed world history classes and learning about other countries and their cultures. Throughout high school, my interest continued to grow as I took additional history, social studies, and current events courses. A family trip to New York City also influenced my desire to major in international studies. Before the trip, I always thought of New York City as a crazy tourist destination, but after spending five weeks in the city, I now see it completely differently. New York City is truly a cultural melting pot and its diversity makes it one of the greatest cities in the world. While I was there, I immersed myself into the diversity that is New York City. I met many interesting people as we visited the different ethnic communities like China Town, Korea Town and Little Italy. Meeting so many new and interesting people and trying different foods excited me. It was interesting to hear their personal stories, what life is like in their country, and what brought them to the United States. During this time, I had never felt more passionate about traveling and learning about different cultures than I did in those five weeks. When I returned home, I knew I wanted to find a career that would allow me to travel and meet people from all different walks of
