Carrie Jacobs-Bond started writing songs to help her husband with income. When he died in 1895 she wrote “I Love Your Truly” after she returned to her hometown Janesville, Wisconsin. Afterward she moved to Chicago and made ends meet by painting china and renting out rooms.
