I pull my inspiration from the depths of my soul to care for others. I believe my compassion for others was instilled in me as a child due to the loss of both parents in a tragic accident. I than was raised by my grandparents, which I count as a blessing because this is where I learned values and developed a strong faith that helped me through many difficult situations. I than was originally inspired by a nurse practitioner that I currently work with at a nonprofit company that serves the economically disadvantaged population. I was amazed at the quality of care she provided regardless of pay. This is the moment I knew I had to move forward and pursue my dream. I feel that becoming a nurse practitioner will allow me to be a bridge for patients between bedside nursing and the physician. I can remain their advocate and support as a nurse, but also give them access to the healthcare that they deserve.
I also plan to be an advocate and an educator to my rural community where there is a need for FNP. There is a severe shortage of primary care physicians in my rural area of southern Oklahoma. I believe I would be a great asset to my rural community as a nurse practitioner due to my ability to provide high quality care, resulting in similar patient outcomes to physician-provided care. I believe I could provide patients in my area with a high level of satisfaction, along with quality health care and good
