My interest had expanded on a broader scale to include gaining knowledge of the families, cultural issues, and economic conditions. I wanted to examine how these conditions impacted the children and their families. I immersed myself into learning the dynamics of the community. I researched the schools in my community and the population they served, along with programs that was available. I mentored young girls in a group home, and volunteered in a Junior High School, working with a social worker. This experience gave me insight into what it is to be a social worker, and I was intrigued. I became passionate about advocating for children who were homeless, lived in poverty, and those who had behavioral as well as mental issues. I feel that I have the propensity for advocating along with empathy which is a crucial in the field of social work.
