What are my interests?
My interests include watching movies, watching television series and reading books. I enjoy all kinds of movies, usually dramas and documentaries. I love reading fiction books and usually series.

My learning styles include People Smart, Self-Smart, Word Smart and Music Smart. My multiple intelligences include Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Musical and Verbal-Linguistic.

I enjoy English and Media Arts. I enjoy English because I like to read and understand literature. I enjoy Media Arts because I like to use technology and I am exceptionally good with handling it.
What learning skills and work habits are my strengths?
My strongest learning style and intelligence is People Smart and Interpersonal. These are my strengths because I like to give advice to people and give advice. I am also a very good listener.
What areas can I work on?
I could work on my logic smart the most. I find myself having trouble with quick thinking. I was never very good with numbers. I tend to take my time to make sure I am getting the answer right and I cannot work fast with multiple numbers.
What are my personal strengths and characteristics, and how do they influence my thoughts and actions?
I think I am understanding and kind. I find myself becoming upset with those that treat others as if they are of more importance than them. I am the type of person that would rather sit with a bunch of happy strangers than sit with grumpy best friends. I don’t believe that there is positive negativity. These influence me in many ways. When people upset me, I don’t lash out and say hurtful things. I try to see past the bad in people. This makes me want to help others be kind to people and makes me want to have a job that shows others that there are good understanding people out there even when they feel that there isn’t.
Section Two: Exploring Opportunities: What are my opportunities?
What co-curricular and community based opportunities can I participate in?
Part-time jobs – Now that I am nearly sixteen years old, I can apply for part-time jobs in my area. I can apply and work jobs at the age of fifteen but you need to have parents sign a consent form.
Volunteer – I can volunteer in my community. I know I can do this because in order to graduate high school you have to have done a minimum of forty community services hours.
Recreational – I can participate in recreational activities. I know I can do this because my school offers recreational activities such as bowling and The Spot.
What specialized programs can I participate in to help me explore my pathway?
Co-op can help me explore my pathway because it gives me a hands on opportunity with the career path of my choice. It helps me have a feel of what it is I’m going to be doing and gives me better insight on what it is that I’m going to be doing if I choose to pursue that career pathway.
Dual-Credit is also helpful because It helps me get both a high school and college credit so that I don’t have to worry about it in college.
What preparation do I need to access opportunities or programs at my school or community?
In order to prepare and access co-op I have to have a resume and cover letter. I need resumes and cover letters so they know how and where to place me.
What fields of work, occupations or jobs are related to my favourite subject areas, my interests, learning styles or my strengths?
Three jobs that relate to me most are Social Worker, Child and Youth Worker, and Early Childhood Educator. These fit me well because they all involve helping other and being able to listen well. Early Childhood Educator fits me because I enjoy working with children. Three results that surprised me were Restaurant Manager, Costume Designer and Music Teacher/ Instructor. I got Restaurant Manager because I like organizing/ supervising people. I got Costume Designer because I have my own creative ideas about designs and styles and I go Music Instructor because I like training/ teaching.
How can my choices in secondary school help to prepare me for my post-secondary pathway?
My choices in secondary school can help because they can give me the basis of what I will be learning in my post-secondary school classes. In order to be Social Worker you should take psychology, sociology, economics and political science.
What is the Ontario Skills Passport (OSP) and what are the essential skills that are required in the workplace?
OSP provides clear descriptions of Essential Skills and work habits important for success in work, learning and life. My weakest essential skills are Numeracy and Oral Communication. I can excel on my Numeracy Skills by practicing math equations and problems daily and for Oral Communication I could practice to do small class presentations.
What are the jobs prospects for the career you have chosen in the Durham region?
The prospects for Social Workers are high. I believe this job will be in high demand because children are mature more quickly and are beginning to get themselves into trouble at younger ages.

I am interested in Social Working. I am interested in this because if people have problems I am more than happy to help. I like to fix problems amongst others so that they can be happy with the life their living. Social work came up in my career choices because I considering the feelings, views or behaviour of others, I like helping others with their social and personal problems and I am generally concerned for other people’s safety or well-being.
What are the demands, rewards and other features of the opportunities that I have explored and what is the fit between those features and the characteristics that I have described in the “Who am I” section of this portfolio?
Yes Social work will fulfil the wants that I have in a job and it can accommodate to my great learning skills and intelligences more than my weak ones. Social work brings a stable income and can be very well balanced between work and my personal life.
As I grow to know myself, have I changed my thinking about my careers of interest, education or my pathways
plan?
I have changed my careers drastically. About 2 or 3 years ago I could have seen myself being a fashion designer but now I wouldn’t do that if it was the last job on earth. I wouldn’t want to do that job but I am not very artistic and don’t find the style of clothes to be an important factor of life. Related careers that I would pursue are Child and Youth Worker. I would pursue this because it is along the same lines of Social Work but you get to know your clients on a more personal level.
What are my educational, career and life goals?
I want to attend college or university to study Social Work.
I want to become a social worker and help those in need when and only if they want help.
I want to become a senior at my job and make a lot of yearly income so I can afford the lifestyle I want to live and do it comfortably.

Good academic performance
Ontario Secondary School Diploma
Minimum of six Grade 12 U or M courses
A minimum overall average of 70%
A minimum grade of 70 % or higher will be required in Grade 12 U English
I will meet the financial demands using the school funds that my parents put aside for me.
What programs or experiences can I participate in to help me plan my pathway?
My school offers visits to certain schools. They will ask if everyone in grade twelve if they are thinking to attend that post-secondary school and if they do, they have a meeting and discuss how and when the will visit that school.
What are the challenges I have with my plan and what are some possible outcomes?
They only challenges that I am concerned about for my career choice is the fact that many people want to be social workers. A way to overcome this challenge could be to stand out with grades and get a lot of training so when you apply for the job, they see how successful you were in College/University.
Who can I ask to help me as I plan my pathway?
Guidance Counsellors, Admission Offices of the post-secondary school I want to attend, OSAP, Scholarship opportunities, people who work as social workers, people who work in a similar field to social working etc.
