Interest In Social Work
Discuss the major reasons for your interest in the profession of social work?

My main interest is helping people, and I feel that becoming a social worker will allow me to do so. It will allow me to get out and meet a variety of different people and it will be challenging. By being challenged in this field I believe it will aknowledge my strengths and weaknesses and help me to become a stronger person in the field of social work. I believe that every child deserves someone who cares for them and can speak up for them when no one else will. I hope that I will be able to help people in difficult times in their lives and change them for the better.

Being a single parent is a huge barrier while trying to pursue your education. No matter the homework and education responabilities I have taken on I still have to be a full time parent regardless of the situations that may arise. After being a full time parent and student I still have to try and find time for my personal life. Such as making time to go to the gym and stay fit, dating, and just finding time to relax and unwind.

Describe any experiences that you have had in working with people (voluntary or paid)?

Experiences I have had while working with people include a serving position in a restauraunt buisness for four years, with co workers and customers. I have also cared for children and been responsible for their well-being along side the parents. Other experiences I have had include working on learning teams while completing projects in class. I have also volunteered my time at goodwill and other local community services.

What experiences have you had which make you feel that you can work effectively with people from diverse populations reflecting religious, racial, ethnic, physical challenges, soci-economic, gender, and sexual orientation

If you have not read the book, it is about a boy named David whose mother abused him in the most unimaginable ways. When the social worker came and removed him from the home I knew that someday I wanted to be able to rescue a kid like David from his home and help him to find a better life. I really liked reading your post. I also thought about working in a private practice setting. I think that working in a small setting, there is a lot more job security. Working in a high-populated setting means that there is a lot of competition in order to progress at work. I love competition, but I really don’t want to be in competition with about twenty-five other social workers. You have a lot of experience. I have barley even been alive for twenty years. I think that your experience will be very useful in social work. At my practicum, I work in a cubical and make dozens of phone calls a day. I rally don’t like to work in a cubical, I love doing field work, its when we visit peoples homes and actually talk to people in their settings. I…
