My Aunt lost her life to drugs after almost 20 years sober he began using again and within 10 years she was gone. Though it didn’t feel like 10 years and I was so angry with her, which is a challenge I can foresee in my future career if I can’t separate that hurt and anger from helping a client who isn’t fully ready to quit. I have learned that I can manage in situations which have uncertainty. The field of human services is versatile and here are many ways we can work collaboratively with other organizations to provide effective services. It is trying to change the way we have been doing things based on mandates and because of the lack of funding. The population I have worked with was mostly adults and youth who were facing issues around addictions, family conflicts, and mental health. I think I would be interested in learning more about how to deal with family dynamics. The strengths I see in myself, are with being able to outreach, working with multiple teams and making connections. My weakness is that sometimes I am afraid to take upon extra responsibility with the fear of not doing the job well. I enjoyed being part of drop-in parenting group and facilitating workshops. I am not too sure where I fit into the working world yet, as my ideas are constantly changing with the exposure I receive from my placements, supervisors and colleagues. I would like to gain more direct client experiences that are important to my future growth and…

    Social Work Career

    • 527 Words

The career I chose was Child, Family, and School Social Worker. They offer assistance to children, youth, and their parents and guardians. Child, Family, and School Social Workers provide social services and assistance to improve the social and psychological, and academic functioning of children and their families. And to make sure their well-being is good. What that means is if a parent doesn’t take their kid to school, the child gets abused at home, the parent doesn't take care of them, and doesn't do anything for the kid then a Child, Family, and School Social Worker would step in. They would interview the parents, kids, and other people to figure out what is going on and what would be best for the child. They also can assist single parents who need help raising their kids, arrange adoptions, help find foster homes for neglected, abandoned, or abused children. If you work in schools then you would address problems like teenage pregnancy, misbehavior, truancy, and substance abuse.…

I am not entirely sure of what career I will end up in, but I know I’d like to do something where I can help others. A career in psychology is a great option for me, and something I am certainly interested in. I would really enjoy working as a clinical psychologist because I am intrigued both by the study of mental illness as well as the work of treating it through counseling. I have personally struggled with my mental state and gone through counseling and realized how important these resources are to those who are struggling. I would specifically like to work with children, because many adults don’t seem to understand that simply because we are young, we cannot also struggle inside. If I were to enter another field, I would most be interested…

Currently, my career goals within the social work profession are mildly amorphous. While I am confident about pursuing my Master’s Degree with a clinical focus, beyond that the field is open.
