Certainly, having grown up in a culture that there process of discipline and training in the most family was by flogging whip, palm fronds spank, spank with a tree switch, beating with a bamboo stick, backs slap, slapping butt, face slapping, punching or twisting ears, and hands beating. In the same way, all these beaten are not seen as an element of abuse by virtue of the pain it gives the individual. After looking through careers in the social category I felt the need to further research mental health and substance abuse social workers. I currently work in the field of mental health and substance abuse as a crisis counselor. I had seriously thought about going back to school to get my masters in social work after talking to making social work co-workers. However there were many aspects of the job that I disliked, but I wanted…

My name is Abby Shonk and I talked with you Monday about changing my major to social work. After looking at the Fall/2017 schedule you made for me I had a question about taking bio and sw320 in the same semester. I noticed that in order to take sw320 I must complete a bio class. Can I take sw320 and bio at the same time or do I have to have bio completed? I received a D in the class so does that mean I can still take sw320 because I…
Ever since I was in fourth grade, I have enjoyed helping kids and watching them learn new things and grow. The best feeling is helping children with something and watching their faces light up as they discover what they can do all by themselves. While in fourth and fifth grade, I was a part of the buddy program at my school which entailed spending every lunch in the special education classroom at my elementary school. A trait I possess is being sequential and that is useful for the career I want because it will help me with staying organized and grading papers. I am an analyzer, I like to know what is going on around me and love to know how things work. This is a trait that comes in handy with being an elementary school teacher.…
Hi, I'm Emma Cooper! I'm from Nashville and I am in the combined bachelors and MSOT program at Spalding University. I have been interested in occupational therapy from a young age because my mom is an OT. She has not practiced since I was born but I loved hearing her stories of all the amazing things she got to do to help people. During high school I volunteered at a hospital for several years and confirmed that I wanted a career within the health field. After shadowing several therapists I decided occupational therapy was a perfect fit for me. As of right now, I am leaning toward working in an adult outpatient rehab setting because that was one of my favorite observation experiences. I am not yet certain what I would like to specialize in,…
I really liked reading your post. I also thought about working in a private practice setting. I think that working in a small setting, there is a lot more job security. Working in a high-populated setting means that there is a lot of competition in order to progress at work. I love competition, but I really don’t want to be in competition with about twenty-five other social workers. You have a lot of experience. I have barley even been alive for twenty years. I think that your experience will be very useful in social work. At my practicum, I work in a cubical and make dozens of phone calls a day. I rally don’t like to work in a cubical, I love doing field work, its when we visit peoples homes and actually talk to people in their settings. I…
I was given the opportunity to learn basic research methodology through my undergraduate Social Work degree. A graduate program would allow me to build upon this knowledge in order to not only perform research projects but also to evaluate the work of others.…
