Why I Want To Become A Social Worker
My motivation for becoming a social worker has stemmed from my past experiences growing up as a child. My family moved from Guyana to the United States when I was a young child. As an immigrant family, my parents suffered financially to provide for my brother and I. Not only did we suffer from poverty my younger was also born with Down syndrome. My parents did not know much about this mental illness disorder coming from a third world country, there is not sufficient information and resources about mental illness. I am very thankful everyday that my parents were connected with a supportive and remarkable social worker that was able to give my parents a high degree of support of social services. This left a lasting impact on me and I came to see her as a role model that influenced me to become to others what they have been to me .My passion and desire is to make a positive difference in people’s …show more content…

Additionally, I want to assist people in solving their own problems as well as captivating them to develop skills and giving them the necessary tools and resources so that they can do it themselves. Working in Social Services will allow me to dedicate my time and skills to help individual’s function to the best of their abilities. What can be more rewarding knowing you have made a difference in someone’s life? I expect graduate school to be challenging but yet rewarding and exciting. Waking up everyday knowing that I am pushing forward to a more fairer, equal and just society. It will allow me to fight for people’s right, protect and support those who are vulnerable and created positive impact on others. I’m sure there will be obstacles that will come my way for instance, being young and a female just to name a few.
