Social Work Career
The career I chose was Child, Family, and School Social Worker. They offer assistance to children, youth, and their parents and guardians. Child, Family, and School Social Workers provide social services and assistance to improve the social and psychological, and academic functioning of children and their families. And to make sure their well-being is good. What that means is if a parent doesn’t take their kid to school, the child gets abused at home, the parent doesn't take care of them, and doesn't do anything for the kid then a Child, Family, and School Social Worker would step in. They would interview the parents, kids, and other people to figure out what is going on and what would be best for the child. They also can assist single parents who need help raising their kids, arrange adoptions, help find foster homes for neglected, abandoned, or abused children. If you work in schools then you would address problems like teenage pregnancy, misbehavior, truancy, and substance abuse. If you decide to be a Child, Family, and School Social Worker then your job would consist of a lot of things. Those things are: Counseling individuals about mental health, substance abuse, poverty, unemployment, physical abuse, child care and medical care. Whether …show more content…

The challenges of being a social worker include how “social work involves helping others and getting involved with people in such a close way can sometimes put you in harm. The risk is real and social workers need to be cautious” (“5 Pros”). No matter what career a person chooses, there will always be risks. Social work comes with big risks. Most people go to or are assigned to a social worker because they have a problem in their lives that they need help solving. That can sometimes mean they did something dangerous and you may be in harm's way. Another negative thing about being a social worker is that it “might be labeled by some to be rewarding, but it can also be emotionally draining” (“5 Pros”). A social worker spends most of their day listening to the problems in the lives of their clients, and giving advice to their clients. That can be very emotionally draining because a certain amount of patience and listening skills are required to get through the day. Some days a social worker may have a more difficult client, and they put more effort and time into that one client which can be very…

What do Social workers do? The primary mission of Social Workers according to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is to enhance human well- being and help meet the basic needs of all people with particular attention to the needs and empowerment of people who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty (NASW, 1999). In my opinion they are there to establish a rapport and enhance motivation. Social workers are there to assist people in their daily lives with coping with relationships, their problems with themselves, and family issues. There are many different kinds of social workers, but overall they are all there to help people deal with everyday life issues. Whether it be solving personal and family problems, working with families who are experiencing domestic conflict, conducting research, working in a hospital setting helping patients and families understand difficult health care choices, working as an administrator with social services with addressing child abuse, homelessness, and domestic violence, or being involved as a social policy advocacy.…
