There does not seem like it would be a dull moment when there’s such a variety in the social work field. For instance, a social worker can work in the school system, the jails, with DHS, DCFS, organizations and many more fields of social work. This would allow me to be able to work with diverse groups of individuals. I personally enjoy people. Working with a variety of people will help me to help them resolve different problems. On a day to day basis where problems can be different; this will allow me to help by giving me experience with others different from myself. The diversity in the social work field can be very rewarding. Learning to deal with different situations only strengthens your ability to help others. Needless to say, I want to be a social worker because it is where I’m called to be. As an example, I started out attending college to become a nurse. Then I realized this is not what I want to do. I was so confused about where I was going in life. I prayed and prayed to the creator to direct my path. Finally, I researched different professions and it hit me. The reason being is; I like how you are able to deal with your clients on a more individual level. I feel at this level I would be able to better engage and serve my clients. Also, this area interests me because the interaction is more personal with those you’re helping. Being engaged in the micro field of social work, I could help with: healthcare, housing, counseling, substance abuse and the list goes on. As a result, my passion is to work with at-risk youth and the family aspect of the social work field. At this level in the field, you get to intervene on the part of the child. In my opinion, children are sometimes under-represented. They deserve to have someone represent them. As well, you also can help the family as a whole in this line of social work. The children and family are very important areas of social work to me. I believe it is better to help at the micro level first. At least that is what I want to do. Think about it for a second; if we help families help themselves then they can share what they have learned with their children. If each family as they grow older pass down this wealth of information maybe things will get better as time goes on. This will then help fix problems on the macro level once problems are fixed at the micro
