There’s a bond that we share and it’s another outlet that people use to express themselves. Music is so broad and diverse that it can match any mood I’m in and make me feel like I’m being understood in my life. Finally, on the last oar is the word row. I’ve been rowing for eight years with the crew team at my school. Crew is one of the most time consuming, physically and mentally challenging, and unique sports there are. I’ve learned so much from being on the team and it’s played an incredible large role in my life. I had the opportunity to be both a rower and coxswain and I’ve gained skills from both roles. As a rower, I learned how to keep myself focused and to never give up no matter what happens. I also learned how to read people to better work as a team. Having the job of being the coxswain, I learned how to lead a team and deal with immense stress all in a single period of time. We take characteristics after the people and learn to adapt to situations based on where we live (Hock 20). For instance in one specific example, I have written “Grandma” on a buoy. My grandmother has shaped my life in a large way, possibly even more than both of my parents. I have my absolute unwavering passion for reading from her, as she had instilled in me that reading was the way to sooth the soul. Also, simply just watching how she dealt with life made me take cues from her. My grandma was extremely independent, especially after having to raise five kids all on her own. Her independence showed me that I needed to be able to not only take care of myself but also make sure that I am able to give the people I love the most a life that they deserve. In the boat, I have a picture of my friend and I hugging all the way to the left at a crew race. In crew, that is typically the seat where the coxswain sits if it’s a stern-built boat. The main job of being a coxswain is being in control of the course of the boat and what the people in it are doing. In terms of control for me
