The transition between childhood and adulthood is the most important development of an adolescence life. Through the ages of 12 and 18 years old adolescence search for personal identity and a sense of self. The two major factors that create influence during the adolescence stage are parent and child relationships and peers and friends.
According to Erick Erickson development now depends on what is done to an individual and on what the individual does. During these complicated years, according to "psychology today", The individual faces challenges in discovering their own identity, struggles with social interactions, and forms a sense of morality. "Parent and child relationships come in conflict during these years in which parents discover that cooperation and compliance are now harder to secure". (Pickhardt) The conflict can result through active and passive resistance.

(Glob J Healthsci) Peer groups influence adolescents in many ways such as dressing, speaking, using substances, sexual behavior, and contributing to violence. On the other hand, having friends can improve your behavior in a healthy way, such as excelling in school and participating in school related activities. Depending on the home environment an adolescents' peers will either affect them in a negative or positive way. Although, not having friends could lead to social isolation and poor interactive skills, causing one to not participate in school activities or events.
Parent and child relationships and peers and friends are both important factors in Erick Erickson's theory of identity versus role confusion. Both factors proceed fairly well with identity and role confusion.
