links my working interest to the field of construction. For example, maintenance electrician; trades specialist, qualified craft workers are the types of career opportunities ONet findings that are currently identified for employment interest. Due to physical adjustment construction occupations are no longer an option. Subsequently, I am currently seeking other innate talents for which may assist with finding employment. Taken from my blackboard discussion post on Finding another career has been challenging. Fortunately, I have worked years in my desired field of work. Working as an electrician was so exciting and mutually rewarding. Exciting because each phase of the job required another level of challenges. In turn, the reward was the ability to flip a switch and see all your hard work successfully operating. When an individual has that type of passion for the career they have chosen, going to work every day with the right attitude is easy.
GRIT and Self-Determination looks at the perseverance, the motivation and the force behind the motivation.
Angela Duckworth, defines “Grit” as the perseverance and passion held within an individual which ultimately determines the persons’ mindset. Whether the person strives to grow or if the person decided to settle with their status all depends on mindset. Statement taken from grit assignment, my level of GRIT is 4.16. per Duckworth scale. The ability to stay committed to a goal by delaying immediate gratification displays the willingness to grow and learn. For instance, my family as scorned me for years during the time that I have been enrolled in school for not participating in holiday events. Delaying immediate gratification in this instance leads me closer to achieving the goals at hand. Although employment opportunities appearance grim now.
Inconclusion, Marcia's Identity status model helped me to understand where I am in the present. The Occupational Information Network forces me to look at ways to use the job of caring for my mother to obtain new skills and strategies for employment. Plus, knowing that the GRIT and Self-Determination for attending college at this late stage has given me a wider perspective for looking at my future and the future of those who will come behind
me.
