Iep Analysis

From watching the films on IEP, I was first able to identify what an IEP was. I’ve discovered that an IEP is a document that is developed for each public school child who needs special education. My thoughts about the information provided in the films helps better understand their child’s process in school with their education. The information in my thoughts is very useful and effective for both the parent and the child. This is also useful because it provides knowledge and understanding to those who aren’t aware of IEP’s and lack certain knowledge to this subject.
As a future educator this information was very useful for me. The films gave valuable information that would be useful in my teaching process. Somethings I will remember, and some
I believe would very instrumental in the future. The things that really stood out for me, that was very valuable would be that parents are responsible and are effective when it comes to their child’s learning process. This is something that I would remember in order to help my student’s learning process be a little bit smoother.
As I continue, what to include in my students IEP was something that stood out for me. For myself I didn’t know what to incorporate into this document, as well as the process of it. I now know that I should include my student’s progress, goals, strengths, and also weaknesses. As I relate back to the film, in the IEP meeting the teachers utilize that information in their discussion of the students. It helped capture the purpose, and the needs of the IEP meeting.
Moreover, Keeping track of the student’s process was also a key point. It made awareness that in order to see your student’s growth and development thought this process; I would have to keep track of their progress. In order to say that there was some developmental growth, or that the student didn’t improve in certain areas. As I relate back to the film again; the teachers and staff made it a requirement to have the student class work as reference to his progress.
In Addition, keeping the parents involved is so important, because without the parents being involved it makes this situation a little bit more difficult.
For example, in the film the teachers always make it a habit to notify the parents in all circumstances. Weather it was by letter, email, or by phone. Parents are instrumental because once the students have left school; it’s the parent’s job to finish installing what the teacher has already started in the beginning.
Finally, the IEP process should be a smooth and easy. It should be organized and everything should be already in place. It relieves parents, students, and also the teachers from being stressed out. You don’t want any confusion especially on the student and as well as their parents. You want them to know that everything is ok and working out for the child in he/she’s benefit. As a future educator I want the best learning environment for my students and by remembering and utilizing these key points I believe that it can be accomplished.
As I come to a close, this film on IEP’s was very helpful. It gave much descriptive knowledge that is considered to be valuable. I now feel confident in working with IEP’s because I now know what IEP’s are and how to properly accommodate my students with this process. Everything that I have just learned would be something that I utilize in my teaching profession once I start to
teach.
