As I sat in the leather chair in the boardroom of the admissions office, listening to an ILR student highlight her school’s dedication to providing hands on learning opportunities and using those opportunities to apply theoretical concepts, I thought of my own learning style that I had discovered when I joined the SUNY-wide model European Union. Armed only with essential information on the functional aspects of the EU, I drafted a proposal to incorporate migrants into the EU economy and debated policy as an outspoken delegate in mock business meetings. I then began to comprehend the distinction between succeeding in academics, and truly thriving.

By enrolling in the Industrial and Labor Relations program in conjunction with concentrating on economic policy, I can begin to address food insecurity, the social justice issue of highest significance to me, with legislative policy to alleviate the plight of underprivileged citizens.
