Obese- Is A Person Who Has A Very High Percentage Of Body Fat Generally Over 25% For Men And Over 35% For Women.
2. What is the public health impact of overweight and obesity in the U.S.?
Obesity is a major health problem in the united states, and numerous diseases have been linked to being too fat. Because of a strong link between obesity and disease, the national institutes of health has estimated that obesity directly contributes to 15%-20% of the deaths in the united states.
3. The 8 different methods used to access body composition are:
Height/Weight Table- are designed to determine if an individual is considered to have a body weight greater than normal for a specific height. BMI- is used to determine if someone is overweight or obese.
Skindfold assessment- is used to estimate a person’s overall body fatness.
Waist Measurement and Waist-to-HipRatio- is used to estimate the risk of disease associated with high body fat.
Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry- involves taking a low radiaton X-ray scan of the entire body to obtain estimates of body fat percentage.
Hydrostatic Weighing- is a technique that involves weighing thw individual both on land and in a tank of water to determine body volume and body density.
Air Displacement- is used to assess body composition the individual is seated in a chamber (the Bod Pod).
Bioeletrical Impedance Analysis- is used in fitness centers as well as in research laboratories.
