How were the key industries and the labour force of the U.K affected by World War Two?
In this essay I will investigate the impact that World War Two had on the key industries and labour force in Britain.
World War Two was fought between the years 1939 to 1945 and caused over 50 million deaths of both soldiers and the people of Britain. Although the major part of the war was fought in France the war had a huge impact on the key industries and the labour force of the U.K. I am going to see how much of an affect the war had on the industries and the people who were employed by them.
During the war the government felt that they had to change the way they were doing things so that they had a chance of winning the war. One of the things that the government did was introduce the emergency powers act. This act allowed the government to make changes to the factories to make them produce the weapons needed for the war, as Hitler was making treats to send a German army to Czechoslovakia. Over 5 days the government took around 100 measurements that included calling up military reservist and air raid precautions, ‘From day one of the war, civilians were issued with gas masks and instructions on how to use them’ (Edexcel GCSE modern History pg353), to help keep public safety.
One of the major changes that happened in the British society during World war two was the change it had to the told that women played in the labour force and the industries in which they were employed.
