Every company cannot exist without their own organizational structure just like human beings cannot alive without human skeleton. If an organization structure is compared as a human skeleton, then departments within an organizational structure are functioning like organs within human body. In order to understand better, I usually compare an organization as a human being. Every single person lives this world, he or she must adapt the complex and changing living condition. His or her body must change according to the environment and function consistently. Therefore, he or she can alive in this world. Organization is the same. Organizational structure must be designed to adapt the variable and dynamic environment, and departments within the organization have to cooperate harmoniously. In hence, the organization can compete with other competitors in the market. Organizational structure plays a foundation role in organization. Whether the structure is suitable to the organization, whether it can help the organization to adapt the increasingly complex and dynamic environments, and whether it can bring effectiveness and efficiency to the organization. These are all deciding the organization’s survival or extinction. In this regard, it is necessary to know more about the details of organizational structure. In this article, several organizational structures will be discussed and their effects also will be mentioned.
Simple organizational structure: This kind of structure is usually exiting in small organizations which employ less than 25 people, supplying single product or service within a defined market.
