Infant observation
Objective Observation
I had the opportunity to observe one of the infants room at San Jacinto college. One my first day of observations there were three kids, two boys and one girl between the ages of three and seventh months old. I saw the teacher playing with two of the kids that were laying on the rug and the other baby was being rocked by one of the students that was doing observations. I notice that in this room were a variety of toys available for the babies. When a baby was tired of being on the baby rocket or tired of
lying on his or her back or tummy, she placed the baby in a different position. Also, she placed them under the activity gym and put different kind of toys close to baby’s face or around them. Every time the teacher changed a baby’s diaper, she spoke warmly with the kids and played with them with a spheres that was hanging from the ceiling. On my second day of observation there were four kids. I notices that one of the kids was crying Even thought the teacher was Soothing or comforting him. This caught my attention because on my first observation, this baby was smiling and playing. I asked the teacher why he was acting that way and she told me that the baby’s mom told her that the baby was not feeling good. One of the babies that was playing on the rug start hitting the baby that was next to him, the teacher moved the baby to prevent this. During my observation I noticed this that teacher held the babies every time they feed them. I also noticed that when a baby was awake, they took the baby out of the crib promptly and put with the other kids on the rug area or just sit them on their laps.
Subjective- Opinion In my opinion this teacher was very responsive to their needs of the kids and shows a lot of affection and attention for them. She was Smiling, singing, and talking with the babies, and I think this is very important for the babies because that is a good way to promote language and brain development. When the kids were playing on the rug are she was making sure that children play with each other safely and without hurting each other. Also, when she was playing with the babies on the rug area I could see how she was helping the babies develop gross and fine motor skills by gives children opportunities to move around and use their muscles . she was making sure to give each baby tummy time, which helps strengthen arm and torso muscles. What really surprise is when I enter to the classroom to do my observation the babies did not cry when they saw me, usually when babies she somebody strange they get terrify.
Relation to Text and Class
According to the text book page 255-257 provide for health and safe environment are essential for infants, teacher, and families. A safe and healthy setting includes that all toys for the babies are made non toxic materials and sanitized regular, appropriate sanitation procedures and toys, classroom material, and furniture are safe, durable, and a good condition. Supporting developmental needs enable infants to develop basic trust. Infant care should be loving and responsive to their need in warm sensitive ways. A challenging environment is one in which infants can explore and interact with a wide variety of materials. Challenging curriculum enables children to go from their present levels of development and learning to the higher levels. Social interactions involve how children interact and get along with other children, their teacher, and others. Some of the thing that teacher can do promote respectful social development and interaction are providing opportunities for infants to engage in activities with others and allow and encourage infants to make choices. It is important that teacher Encourage children’s active involvement because this support their learning and provides them with feelings of accomplishment and achievement.
