For Romeo and Juliet, it leads to true love, but for the poem, it led to a relationship losing true love. Romeo and Juliet used their free will to marry each other. In the story it says, “Thy purpose marriage, send me word to-morrow.” This means that Juliet wants to get married tomorrow. Romeo will “purpose marriage” to Juliet out of his free will. They choose to get married “to-morrow.” This shows free-will can start true love because marriage is a big commitment. By showing that they are committed to each other, and by free willingly choosing to get married, they show that they are experiencing true love because of how committed they are towards each other. This is different from the poem because in it, the narrator uses free will to end a relationship, or lose true love. The poem says, “Why should a foolish marriage vow, oblige us to each other… But our marriage is dead.” This means that the narrator free willingly chooses not to listen to his/her “marriage vows” because he/she has fallen out of love with their significant other. The narrator doesn’t want the “vow” to “oblige” him/her to the other individual, so he/she chose not to listen to it and this causes their “marriage” to “die.” Free will can lead to the end of a relationship. Both the TED talk article and Romeo and Juliet support this claim. In the TED talk article, true love is described to be significant and this makes the reader obligated to find true love. It says, “ It is a need. It is an urge. Like hunger and thirst, it’s almost impossible to stamp out.” True Love is described as being vital in this. By comparing it to something like “hunger and thirst,” the text is obligating the reader to find true love because without it, there will be nothing. The reader feel obligated to fin this “need” because it is “almost impossible” to not have. This obligation is similar in Romeo and Juliet because in it, Juliet feels obligated to go to the party and find true love with Paris. The story says, “ I’ll look to like, if looking liking move: But no more deep will I endart mine eye.” Juliet feels obligated by her mom and the nurse to see Paris. Her mother and the nurse are trying to convince Juliet to find true love with Paris at the party. “I’ll look to like”: means that she will look and see if she can find True love with Paris. This shows obligation because she feels obligated to look at him. The obligation that she feels is coming from her family. Both the texts describe that obligation forces people to find true
