What is Influenza
Influenza commonly referred to “flu, is an infectious disease caused by RNA viruses of the family Orthomyxoviride (the influenza viruses), that affects bird, humans, and other mammals. The common symptoms of the disease are chills, fever, sore throat, muscle pains, severe headache, coughing, weakness/fatigue and general discomfort. The most frequent symptoms are sore throat, fever and coughs. In more serious symptoms, influenza can causes pneumonia, which can be fatal for young and elderly. Influenza also may produce nausea and vomiting in children. Often confused with other influenza-like illnesses, especially the common cold, influenza is a more severe disease caused by a different type of virus.
The above is usually situation occur “conventional” or “seasonal” flu strains in the yearly. However, there are severe flu outbreaks when a portion of the human population is exposed to a flu strain against little or immunity population because the virus has become altered. An influenza virus is generally passed from person to person by airborne transmission. This means child can contract the flu by coming in contact with airborne viruses from an affected person by way of sneezing and coughing.
