Strategy Project Preparation Health information technology has brought the vibrant movement in health care to provide safe quality care. Health information technology (HIT) includes electronic health records(EMR), computerized physician order entry(CPOE), e-prescribing, and support for improvements involving health care (Abdelhak, Grostick, & Hanken, 2012). Description of the Selected Information Solution The Agency for Health care Research and Quality (AHRQ) has five goals for organizations when using HIT. Reducing errors by improving patient safety, sharing of health information, easy transition between health care facilities, complete testing is necessary and not completing tasks over again, and having a deeper understanding of “clinical safety, quality, financial and organizational value, and benefits of HIT” (Abdelhak et al., 2012, p. 82). Fictitious Memorial Hospital is a 120 bedded acute rehabilitation organization in suburban area. The organization has paper based records, and now moving toward the EMR requires the specific strategies to implement successfully. The Chief Executive Officer(CEO) held meeting with finance manager, business administrator, Chief Nursing Officer(CNO), and head of the technicians with some other interested personnel. CEO discussed the agenda, and requested to CNO to be a project manager. The project manager holds meeting within a week to establish vision, mission, and discusses the timeline with the detail plan.
System Life Cycle, and EMR The CNO as project manager chooses a team to provide input in evaluating what type of EMR that will be chosen. The team consists of nursing informatics specialist, the IT department, and the CFO. The nursing informatics specialists will decide what information should be incorporated within the system.
