The holiday of Halloween is coming up, and that’s getting everyone pretty excited. Halloween is scary, thrilling, sweet, and is packed with candy. We celebrate it just like any other major holiday. But the honest truth is, what is Halloween? To start, the day of this event is on October 31st every year. In class on the 26th I was running a lot of thoughts through my head. Spending the High School period listening to the origin of Halloween was truly entertaining. I wanted to know all about it, so I decided to research a little bit. I poked around on the mystifying thing called the internet, and I found some pretty wacky things, and all of them did not match up to my thesis. To explore and see if any of my family knew anything about Halloween, I asked each one of them what they thought it was based on. The best, and funniest answer I got was from my smallest sibling, he is 10 years old, and he said, “Halloween is where you go get candy, and eat it and get diabetes.” Halloween is actually a religious event. They believed that on Halloween, or Hallows’ Eve, the spirit world will open, and allow ghosts from relatives come and visit them.
