6. Why are emerging adults more likely than people of other ages to take part in risky sports? Because they seek the rush that you get from them. It satisfies the rush of risk.…
“Katie Hnida --the first woman to score in an NCAA Division I-A (a Football Championship Subdivision) game -- was on the roster as a kicker at Colorado in 1999 and later played in games at New Mexico.” (ESPN) Katie Hnida was a female football player in Colorado and New Mexico. She was discriminated against because of her gender, and it eventually led to her being sexually assaulted by her teammates. Women have struggled drastically to break the stereotype of only men's football team, they have created female football associations, and are allowed to express themselves through a rough, full body contact game. The World Book Dictionary states that a footballer is a person who plays football. It never is written that football is only for a specific gender, it can be any person.…
Many years ago and until recently people did not really accept the fact that women could play sports as well as men, or even play at all. Over the years, people started to accept some women as athletes at some sports, but not all of them. Sports like rugby, football and handball were only played by men. Nowadays, however, you could easily find a women playing football and many other sports they never used to play better than any of the men you know. People changed their perspective of women being involved in sports when they would see how capable the women were of being good at a sport they play. Women were not allowed at the first olympics ever played but nowadays, women play in almost all of the sports in the olympics. The rest of the essay will discuss how women sports has changed over the years in detail.…
Before the 1970’s women had a very low chance of becoming a doctor or a lawyer just because they were women. They had a very low chance of getting into a college to even get that degree. If schools are a problem, then sports are an even bigger problem (Women’s Sport Foundation). People are thinking “Why are women treated as a lower class than men?”…
Driving out in the field with real challenges can helpfully teach teenagers a lot quicker to be experienced enough to be smart and safe drivers in the future. Most oftenly, they don’t have to depend on their parents to drive them to point A to B all the time, because they can drive their own vehicle without asking their parents for transportation. Teenagers can learn when to shift gears at the opportune time and handle the car effectively. Keeping…

In the article, “Young People, Dangerous Driving and Car Culture” published in Youth Studies Australia, Hannah Graham and Rob White try to dispel the notion that young males driving high-performance vehicles are a major cause of car accidents in Australia. Actually, the research paints a different picture amongst the 18 to 25-year-old crowd. Although young people have more car accidents than mature drivers, youngsters with high-performance vehicles do not have more crashes. Throughout this article hooning is a slang Australian term used, which means the same as street racing in the United States. When two drivers try to outrace each other on public streets, automobile driving makes a turn into the illegal form of motor racing known as street racing or hooning. What makes this topic important is the young men…
After exploring the topic of female athletes. I conclude that girls should be able to play on boys sports teams. Evidence shows that as males in terms of their ability to engage in fierce competition such as the Little League World Series. For example the article “Mo’ne Davis”S…
The article written by Grindstaff and West, Cheerleading and the Gendered Politics of Sport, spells out the ideas of gender diversity in sports along with the expression of different genders specifically in Cheerleading itself. Before title IX women were judged and sometimes even not permitted to participate in sports at the collegiate or even varsity high school levels. The title prevented any persecution to come to any women who participated in school funded events including athletics or even certain school clubs. After the passing of the title many females joined cheerleading making it a female dominated sport. In turn cheerleading switched from a sport which was created to emphasize character building and leadership to being based off the notions of physical attractiveness and sex appeal (Grindstaff and West, 309). This specific change in the ideals and the view that the public has of cheerleading distinctively shows the social divide between the two genders. Dividing the genders urged the creation of largely socially…
I have chosen to research and discuss the concept of gender in sport. Issues relating to gender have been a popular topic of interest since the recent world championships, when the new 800m champion Caster Semenya were asked to take a gender test, due to her over all ability and physical appearance. I believe this issue will also be more relevant with the lead up to the 2012 Olympics and the push to improve sports in school.…
As defined by Merriam-Webster, sexism is the unfair treatment of people because of their sex.…
In 1991, there was a law introduced in Saudi Arabia that banned woman from driving and just a few years ago a woman posted a video of her driving in Saudi Arabia which then became a big issue. Also in Saudi Arabia, women are not allowed to drive and do not have a driver’s license because it is against their religion so licenses are only given to men. All of these events result in discrimination since women are not allowed to drive or do certain things because of rules and regulations blocking them. Not only is it hard for female drivers but also female racers because there are so many male racers than female racers mainly because of this typical stereotype. But one racer named Danica Patrick has been racing since she was ten and that proves how dedicated and hard working she is to overcome that stereotype that was blocking her path. Likewise, there are a lot of obstacles and discrimination that females have to face because of this…
Women have and always will face inequality all their lives. It will occur in different forms as time passes, but there will always be something along the road to remind a women that she is simply “made to reproduce”. For example, in past times, it would be seen as something unnatural for a woman to participate in sports that were primarily dominated by men. Today, we are currently living in the 21st century and the differences among male and/or female athletes is huge. More than half of the world accept that women participate in sports, but they are still left in the shadows and must overcome many obstacles to make a “household” name of themselves. Men have much easier access to participate in sports and a far greater chance of success, whereas…
First of all, it is certainly true that women have less physical strength than men and that a mutual competition would lead to only very few women having a chance to win in disciplines like Weightlifting or Athletics. Moreover, in many disciplines physique is not the key factor for success, for example in Bowling or Darts. On average, women perform worse than men even in those disciplines. However, this might be mostly due to different factors like less women take up these sports and being less promoted.…
