Good Afternoon. My name is Aruna Arnathan Krishnan and I will be giving a specch on Botox.Do you know that over one million Botox treatments carried out each year?.The newest beauty craze that has hit the middle age market is Botox. Botox injection therapy, although not completely new which has come out growing since being approved for use in cosmetic improvements in 2002.Botox is used to eliminate the look of aging by reducing the appearance of wrinkles on the face, neck and hands. Most commonly, patients use Botox to crow’s feet around the eyes, wrinkles on the forehead and the frown or laugh lines. It has become such a popular and user friendly alternative to cosmetic surgery. Recently some doctors have done research on Botox and they had come up with a new statement that Botox can be use as a pain controller.

In a study presented at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) Plastic Surgery 2004 conference in Philadelphia, women injected with Botox in the pectoral muscles following the surgical removal of their breast experienced significantly less pain and shorter hospital stays. Nerve pain or also known as neuropathy, this type of pain that affects the hands, feet, and legs is common in diabetes. A study published in the journal Neurology found that 44 percent of patients with nerve pain found relief after Botox was injected into skin at the top of the foot.

Besides controlling the pain in the pectoral muscles and nerve pain,it is also use to improve pain and quality of life in people with chronic bilateral posterior neck and shoulder myofascial pain syndrome. When Botox is injected into muscles,it blocks the nerve signals that cause the tightening of muscle, leading to muscle relaxation.A patient name Christine,Canada comented on the doctor’s blog that,
“I have suffered with neck pain for many years.Botox has given me my life back.I have arthritis in my neck and Botox is the only thing that has given me relief”.

At any given time, 10 percent of the adult population has neck pain and it is the second leading cause of lost time from work behind low back pain, with less than 1 percent developing neurologic deficits and requiring surgical intervention. Most of the patients do recover with conservative therapy regardless of the underlying etiology of pain. Patients clinically present for a number of contributing factors and despite the cause, end up recovering well with conservative therapy. The development and use of standardized clinical practice guidelines ensures that tested and proven treatment approaches are used across the board and allows for analogous patient care. One of the research studies conducted is the Philadelphia Panel for Evidence Based Clinical Practice Guidelines (EBCPG) on Selected Rehabilitation Interventions for Neck Pain. This shot was originally used by physicians to calm their patient’s twitchy eye muscles, but it is now used for many reasons including the reduction of wrinkles, the main reason, and the elimination of migraine symptoms. This physician injects Botox in the problem spots of the face, freezing nerve impulses and making the face void of expression. Patients, after this muscle paralyzing procedure, cannot frown, squint, raise their eyebrows, or show any sign of disappointment or excitement. Botox, also, is a diluted poison and, if not thoroughly diluted, it may cause botulism, a sometimes fatal form of food poisoning. Other complications this injection of vanity may promote are the loss of ability to raise one’s eyebrows all the way, the excess of drooling due to paralysis of the mouth and the permanent loss of facial expressions. Also, this procedure cannot cure all wrinkles, for some naturally emerge and some are actually caused by the position of certain muscles under the skin. So, as Michael D. Lemonick states, “Botox isn’t a cure-all, and it has some pretty odd side effects. But if you don’t mind getting shot up with poison and you don’t mind paralyzing parts of your face—well, you’ve got plenty of…

The film, On The Waterfront, portrays the labor unions and the working class in a rather unflattering light. It portrays the working class as uneducated, uncivilized, undesirable, and immoral and also portrays the working class as subservient to the upper class. The stereotypical portrayal of the working class in On The Waterfront conforms to and overturns the stereotypical portrayals of the working class found in Michael Parenti’s essay, “Class and Virtue”.…
