It took place in 1961, and the couple were on the road trip home from Canada. Betty saw a strange, bright light in the sky; but strange enough, there were no stars out besides it. The bright, star-like light was moving frantically- not the usual behavior of a star.
Betty made Barney stop, so that they could see it more clearly. Looking through binoculars, Barney saw what – when described – seemed to be many humanoid (human-like; 2 legs, 2 arms, standing on 2 feet) aliens.
Frightened, the couple drove away as fast as the car could go. They recall hearing two beeps, and then, in a daze, realized that they were over thirty miles from where they’d been originally. They then looked at the time, and noticed that somehow, the time was two hours later. Hadn’t it only been minutes before that they’d seen the beings? How could two hours have passed? The Hills believed they’d been abducted, and that the aliens had erased their memories. In the following years after the incident, the Hills appeared on numerous talk shows, and were made famous by the media. Betty was having strange dreams, and believed that they were of her experiences in the spacecraft. Both she and Barney drew many pictures of the aliens, the UFO, and even a star map that Betty claims she’d seen on the ship. The couple underwent many hypnosis sessions, to try to see if they’d really seen it, or if it was all just

A National Geographic survey states that 77% of the population believe that aliens exist and could have visited the Earth. Over “80 million Americans, or 36% of the population, believe UFOs are real” (Live Science Staff). 68 years ago the nation was captivated by supposed reports that a UFO crashed on a ranch in Roswell, New Mexico. This subject has always been debated between the military and the public for years. In 1997 “the military released a 231 page report [hoping that all the rumors would stop]” (Peyser 1). Yet, the public still doubt the truth of the military report about the Roswell incident because there were several different stories that happened. The story of Betty and Barney Hill begins in September of 1961, in the state of New Hampshire. Barney had recently developed an ulcer, and he and his wife Betty decided to take a short vacation to Canada. It was around ten thirty when they were on their way home from the vacation. They both noticed what appeared to be a bright star, but turned out to be the UFO. The object began to appear and disappear, and it began to move in an odd way. The couple both thought it was an airplane up in the sky. Barney stopped the car to have a look at the object with his binoculars. He saw multicolor lights, and noticed that the object was moving towards him. This observation caused Barney to realize, "this object that was a plane was not a plane." Frightened he jumped into his car, and noticed that two hours of their lives vanished into oblivion. Betty noticed her shirt was ripped, and Barney’s shoe was not in proper order. The mood was quiet in their car as they proceeded home. When they arrived, they both went to bed and slept until the next…

She looked over at the hotel dumbwaiter, a service lift rigged to transport laundry, and suggested they ride it down to the basement. Chrissy hopped in first and scooted to the back.
