My favorite animals are owls and wolves. So, when I found that there were no constellations of owls (there should be, though, in my opinion), I chose the constellation of the wolf, or Lupus. This constellation also reminds me of Professor Lupin, who was also my favorite Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher in the Harry Potter books. I think that J. K. Rowling intended that to be, since Lupus means Wolf in Latin. Lupus can be found between the constellations of Centaurus and Scorpius. The Lupus constellation is home to some remains of a supernova, some globular clusters, and the Retina Nebula. It also contains two stars that have planets.…

The Minotaur’s Greek name was Asterion, which means “the starry one”. He was featured in the first and last book Percy Jackson and the Olympians series written by Rick Riordan. The importance of the Minotaur in the books series is that, “He is also carrying an axe in The Last Olympian shaped like an Omega, the last letter of the Greek Alphabet. This could be a reference to the Minotaur being the beginning and the end” (Minotaur). Minotaur has been a cultural object for many artists who study mythology, is seen in movies, books, and sculptures and is still known by many people…

Additional information: Poseidon is a god of many names. He is most famous as the god of the sea. The son of Cronus and Rhea, Poseidon is one of six siblings who eventually "divided the power of the world." His brothers and sisters include: Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Zeus. The division of the universe involved him and his brothers, Zeus and Hades. Poseidon became ruler of the sea, Zeus ruled the sky, and Hades got the underworld. The other divinities attributed to Poseidon involve the god of earthquakes and the god of horses. The symbols associated with Poseidon include: dolphins, tridents, and three-pronged fish spears.…

Athena (Roman name: Minerva), goddess of wisdom and battle strategy, is one of the most beloved and well known gods of the Greek myths. According to Greek mythology, Athena sprang from the head of Zeus, fully grown and wearing battle attire. Athena is always portrayed with her armor and helmet, carrying her shield and lance. Athena is also a gifted craftsman; she created the bridle to tame horses, along with many other crafts and useful objects. Her favorite bird is the owl, which is the symbol of wisdom, watchfulness and the hunt. Athena made all of her followers live a life of purity, and she created a big impact on Greece’s history. On of the most famous myths involving Athena is the origination of the city of the Athens’ symbol. The story begins when Poseidon and Athena have a dispute over who is to rule Athens. Whoever greats the best symbol to represent the city would become patron god or goddess. Poseidon, god of the sea, produced a freshwater spring for the Acropolis. Athena chose to present an olive tree, one of her many symbols. Because olive trees are deemed very useful, Athena became crowned patron goddess of Athens, and she has been ever since.…

In Greek mythology, Pegasus was the son of Poseidon and Medusa, having sprung from the blood of Medusa as it dropped into the sea after her head was severed by Perseus. He was captured by Bellerophon at the water of his fountain and was ridden by him when he killed Chimera. Bellerophon showed disrespect to the Gods as he attempted to ride Pegasus to Mount Olympus and Zeus sent an insect to sting Pegasus and Bellerophon was thrown back. Pegasus found sanctuary on the sacred mountain, where he carried Zeus' thunderbolts and was ridden by Eos, the goddess of dawn. Under his feet sprang the sacred springs of the Muses on Mount Helicon.…

The constellation that I have chosen is Pegasus, the reason for this being that the story of Bellerophon and Pegasus against the Chimaera is a myth that has always intrigued me. The myth behind Pegasus is Greek and starts with Bellerophon visiting the King of Lycia. When on arrival Bellerophon handed the King of Lycia a message from King Proteus - who was married to the King of Lycia's daughter. The message stated that when Bellerophon had stayed with King Proteus previously he had be rude and disrespectful, King Proteus wanted the King of Lycia to kill Bellerophon.…

The role of the Delphic oracle in Greek mythology was very important due to the myth it followed of Apollo. Apollo, the god of Prophecy known as an oracular god who was the only god who could prophesy the will of Zeus and influence mythology so greatly, influenced the Delphic oracles importance. The Greek societies believed Apollo was born on the island of Delos, and still a boy when he travelled to the island of Delphi to succeed in his first task of achievement, which was killing the python, that lived there. The temple had originally belonged to the oracle of the earth goddess Gaia; a python, which Apollo killed that guarded the site. Apollo stole the python oracle there and took control of the temple, which was and still is known, as the temple of Apollo in Delphi.…

The Orion constellation is something that has always appealed to my imagination. The constellation is visible with the naked eye and can be seen by everyone in the world, wherever they are. Ancient cultures mention it in their writings or even in the paintings in their caves, so the constellation has been up there in the night sky for a little infinity, as a silent watcher over the human race while we live and die at a speed that the heavens only experience as mere seconds. Orion's symbol is that of a hunter and it contains three bright stars that people refer to as the hunter's belt, or Orion's belt. When we go over to some finer instruments than the human eye, one can find Orion's Nebula south to Orion's belt.…
