Most elite gymnasts have more than 3 injuries a year and 1 serious injury that puts their training on hold for a few weeks. “There is no one I know in gymnastics that hasn’t been seriously hurt at some point” (Brooke Arrington, 2013). Examples of serious injuries in gymnastics are Nastia Liukin and Lauren Mitchell. Nastia Liukin suffered a serious back injury which she experienced when she fell off the uneven bars at the 2012 Olympic Trials; the injury ended her career and her last chance at competing at the 2012 London Olympics. After recovering from her injury Nastia Liukin went onto modelling leotards. A second example is Lauren Mitchell when she injured her shoulder at the 2012 London Olympics. It was this injury that put a hold on her career but the setback gave her a chance to go back to school to make up for all the years she had missed because of training. The injury has not stopped her from competing but has stopped her from performing the uneven bars event as she explained at the 2014 Gymnastics World Championships. She stated, “It was basically me training every day, just to get all those numbers and upgrades back into my routines, especially for beam, floor and vault because I’m only doing those 3 events due to my shoulder injury.” (Lauren Mitchell, 2014). This proves that gymnastics is a dangerous

Last OP I talked about concussions and the effect they have on people’s brains. Other injuries can affect the way a certain muscle can work. When you break a bone in your leg or tear something you need to do physical therapy. While you do physical therapy it can take a long time to build up the muscle you didn’t use. This is not good, if you keep playing sports that muscle will be stronger, but the downside is that the ligament may be more prone to being injured. Many players come back from a serious injury and then do very well. One instance was when Peyton Manning came back from neck surgery to set many records in the next season. This year Peyton Manning is sorely underperforming and was injured and isn’t doing well. There have been stories where he has immense…

When we see a gymnast or a wrestler on television, we sometimes marvel at how good their body looks, and how physically fit they are. As these athletes may indeed have thin, well toned bodies, some of them may be a result of eating disorders. If I was ever feeling down, I could look at that medal and immediately have that feeling again. Today, I have so many things that I do that are not very easy. I coach gymnastics, I am in dance, every summer I do a mission project with my church, and then I of course have school. Through gymnastics I have seen things that everybody does a little different. When I see someone achieve something that will lead to bigger things in life, all I can think is “Wow. They should get a medal for achieving that.” I think this because in gymnastics, medals are not earned at the competition. They are earned during practice. So when I see people do something big, and I know that they have been working so hard for it, I think that they should have earned something…
