What other regions of the country have had attempts to include Intelligent Design into their science curricula? Where have ID proponents been successful in incorporating this viewpoint into public science classes?
The theory of intelligent design argues that some features of the universe are best explained as the products of an intelligent cause, not an undirected process such as natural selection. Due to its controversial nature it is not widely taught throughout our country and has met with some problems for schools that have taught the idea. Another case is Texas, where the teaching of the intelligent design theory was being considered in adding to the new science curricula. According to molecular geneticist Bruce T. Lahn, “There is no evidence for it. Intelligent Design, by scientific definition, cannot be a theory because it cannot be tested; only believed.” The National Center for Science Education have a bolder statement regarding creationism and intelligent design stating, “Teachers who present creationism (under any name) as science are misinforming their students…” and “Teachers have no freedom to misinform and miseducate students. It is scientifically inappropriate and educationally irresponsible to present intelligent design under its own name or in any other guise as scientifically credible. And it is unconstitutional to do so in the public
