The whole idea of instinct is what keeps people alive, which is exactly why Hamlet eventually ends up dead like all of the people around him, he failed to act on instinct. In Hurns character analysis she describes Hamlet as, “Introspective and indecisive...he struggles with a conflict that defies a solution consistent with his sense of honor and morality and with the expectations of his society”(Herns 1). Throughout the play one constantly sees Hamlet's internal conflict but through Hurns eyes she sees it as a problem with the expectations of his daily society. One of the few times we saw Hamlet act on instinct in the play, he was already dying, and was about to lose everyone he had once held dear to him, that's when he took action and finally decided to end Claudius’ life. In the play Hamlet takes matters into his own hands and claims that “the point envenomed too!—Then, venom, to thy work...Here, thou incestuous, murderous, damnèd Dane,/Drink off this potion. Is thy union here? Follow my mother./Hamlet forces Claudius to drink Claudius dies”(V.ii.320-322). In the end Hamlet does take initiative and finally does not over think his actions, but it unfortunately it is too late when he finally does something to defend what he was fighting for, his parents,
