Case 1 (Strategic HRM ) Can Knights Apparel Satisfy All of Its Stakeholders and Survive?
Imagine how changed your life would be if you woke up one day and could no longer see the vibrant blue sky or your child's face; your once colorful world had been taken from you and turned to darkness. That is exactly what happened to Joe Bozich, CEO of Knights Apparel, when he suddenly lost his vision due to the unexpected onset of multiple sclerosis. Certainly, the founder of the leading supplier of college-logo apparel was disturbed by his situation. In response to his experience, Bozich reflected, “While we had the resources for medical help, I thought of all the families that didn't. I started thinking that I wanted to do something more important with my business than worry just about winning market share. That seemed kind of empty after what I've been through. I wanted to find a way to use my business to impact people that it touched on a daily basis.”
Fortunately, Bozich's vision made a full recovery. And the experience left him with an urge to evaluate what was really important and what

Once there was a poor man. He was very happy, but could not afford the house of his dreams. Each day he walked down the beach, looking at the frothy, white waves slapping against the beach, the fish leaping out of the water, and the seagulls floating around him waiting for a careless person to drop a crumb. He loved walking down the sandy beach. But what he enjoyed most was the rainbow of houses stretched down the beach. They weren’t big, they weren’t small. But he loved the way their colors looked next to each other. The dark blue standing next to the vibrant pink. He would see the owners looking out from their balconies, watching him. He did this day after day and nothing ever changed.…

Each new day begins with a sunrise. It brings to earth a new light that has never been seen before. The new light starts small and gradually reaches its peak in the vast sky. It nourishes the land, provides warmth and comfort, and inspires epic tales. As the day ages the light slowly sinks behind the horizon leaving behind brilliant splashes of color as if to reflect upon its accomplishment, but the pallet of colors will quickly fade to black as the light leaves the sky to go to places unknown. Even though the day was bright and created wonder it must give way to the tranquil, mysterious, and cool night.…

Usually, when management of Knight Apparel comes to the decision to lean more on supporting the community than making benefits, it’s hard to tell whether the corporation will make a financial outcome in the long term. From my perspective, I don’t see the success in the traditional way. Because of two reasons, Knight Apparel may face difficulty. One reason is it only managed to reopen one local factory and with an above-average wage rate, it may suffer from huge loss in the long run. Also, only support from their distributors’ promotion and public reputation is far away from making ends meet. The other reason lies in the fact that other competitors are not taking the same move which directly suggests that Knight Apparel is not making the most competitive model economically.…

As I look around my room, I noticed something. I noticed something that changed my view of the world forever. My room was a completely new color, transformed from its dull, boring shade of beige to a much more energetic hue of orange. Who knew that a simple change of color could make such a difference? I watch it as it slowly takes over the surface of the bare beige walls. The orange paint was slowly changing the feel of the room, the temperature, the texture, and the emotions of the place. As if it was changing every aspect of it. Erasing its previous personality, making it a different wall, so to speak. The once grey, dull, lethargic walls were suddenly injected with life! Turning it into a hotter, happier, giddier shade of orange. The hue made me want to jump up and dance just by looking at it. Then.. It hit me.…

My family's bright, white van, that is covered in stickers of various colors and shapes, rumbles down the rough road. I look out the window to see the vibrant green trees, the grass that is a light shade of brown, and the occasional red and brown dead possum lying down in the middle of the road. Then I look out the windshield and see the cloud covered, dark sky that warns us of an upcoming storm. As we approach our white house with paint peeling off, I look out upon our yard that is filled with various play sets from my childhood, and multiple fruit trees that no one ever picks. I look across the desolate cotton field owned by our neighbors who I barely know. I see my Alaskan Husky, Maple, running around the yard with four small puppies.…

The absence of accurate job information created a problem because there was no written job description and job specification. Also, the HR Director was supposed to mention during the interview that Virginia is expected to be a relief receptionist not just an hour a day, but also if the receptionist will be sick or unable to work. Virginia could have refused that job from the beginning. In that case the job description was verbal and had nothing to do with the tasks that were to be performed. Virginia was hired to work as a HR assistant, but later she was asked to work as a relief receptionist. She felt that the new tasks she was asked to perform were below her qualification and they were not related to the HR position she applied for. I think that Virginia felt that her job was not significant or meaningful. This resulted in lack of satisfaction on Virginia's part.…
