Internet Related Protocols and Services
Computers and internet are two things that have significantly changed our lives. These technologies have simplified our lives in several ways. Internet has connected us to the rest of the world and now you can do almost everything with the help of the internet. Internet is one wide area network that is available all over the world and you can communicate, shop or entertain yourselves with the help of this system. It has made our lives easier and hence there are several protocols that have been developed for the same. Protocols are the standards that are set for something and hence we would discuss some of the major internet related protocols and services.
SMTP (simple mail transfer protocol) is one of the most commonly used protocols for the internet. It is an international standard that has been developed for the provision and usage of email services over the internet. The standard defines that every person needs to have a particular account for using the internet. The users are usually identified by the domain name, account and the address of the computer that is employed for the same. The email id of every person consists of the user name followed by the website or the domain name and the extension of the domain.
Another protocol commonly used over the internet is HTTP (hypertext transport protocol). HTTP is nothing but the language of world wide web and it is the basic protocol that helps us in processing or using the information that is available on the internet. There is lot of information available on the websites over the internet in different forms and for accessing this information, you need to use a web address for accessing websites and extracting information. HTTP is what helps you in getting the exact path for a website.
You must have also come across the protocol called FTP (file transfer protocol). FTP is a special protocol that helps you in sharing and transferring files. You have the option and facility of sharing and transferring files over

In a computer network internet protocol is used for communication, to each device such as printers and computers a numerical label called an IP (Internet Protocol) Address is assigned. There are two functions of an IP Address a host or network interface identification, and also provides a location addressing. The basic elements of a network are the IP Address and Subnet Mask. There is also switching and routing which after you connect devices to switches and routers, data packets can be moved across the network. The Internet Protocol Version 4 (known as IPv4) is a protocol highly used even today, this IP Address consist of a 32-bit number in decimal or binary in four parts. In 1995 Internet Protocol Version 6 (known as IPv6) was created due to a high growth of the Internet, and the reduction of…

TCP / IP Model - provides end-to-end connectivity specifying how data should be formatted, addressed, transmitted, routed and received at the destination. This functionality has been organized into four abstraction layers which are used to sort all related protocols according to the scope of networking involved.[1][2] From lowest to highest, the layers are the link layer, containing communication technologies for a single network segment (link), the internet layer, connecting hosts across independent networks, thus establishing internetworking.…

The Internet Protocol (IP) sits in the middle of the five-layer TCP/IP model. IT provides service to the layers above it and receives services from the layers below it. Almost every computing device on the planet communicates in some way, and most of those use IP. IP exists as an Internet standard protocol, also called ipv4, although it is mostly just referred to as IP. IP was created in the 1970s, but did not reach standard status as the IPv4 RFC until the 1980s.…

When using HTTP, one will use Internet Explorer, or an alternative Web Browser like Netscape or Mozilla. Alternatively when using FTP, a FTP client software like Bulletproof FTP, WSFTP, or CuteFTP is used. FTP is the most commonly used protocol for file transfers over the Internet, but unlike HTTP which is generally a one way transfer of data, FTP provides a means of allowing clients to upload files as well as download them, and is considerably easier to set up and maintain (www.pcstats.com, 2006).…
