• “build effective relationships with colleagues and other professionals by using clear verbal and written communication, and positive interpersonal skills” (ECEC, 2011, p. 20)
• “current in their professional knowledge” (ECEC, 2011, p. 19)

one aspect of this standard that I believe this internship did not meet as I was unable to communicate and connect with my student’s schoolteacher. I feel that having the opportunity to communicate with his teacher would have created a community partnership.
• “facilitate community partnerships for the benefit of children and families” (ECEC, 2011, p. 20)
• “working collaboratively with community resource persons and members of other professions” (ECEC, 2011, p. 20)
The skills and knowledge I gained through this experience relates to Standard I: Caring and Nurturing Relationships that Support Learning. This experience provided opportunity to build and maintain a responsive and caring relationship with my student and his family throughout the program. Some highlighted points are as follows:
• “recognize that families are of primary importance in children’s development and are best understood in the context of their famillies” (CECE, 2011, p. 13)
• “familiarize themselves with available information’ regarding the relevant family circumstances” (CECE, 2011, p.
13)
• “maintain ongoing and open communication regarding the development and learning of the child” (CECE, 2011, p. 13)
• “receptive listeners and offer encouragement and support” (CECE, 2011, p. 13)
Lastly, I feel that the knowledge and skills I have gain from this experience relate to Standard II: Developmentally Appropriate Care and Education. Planning lessons for each session provide hands on experience developing appropriate experiences and activities for my student current literacy level. It also provided opportunities to developing experiences and activities that challenged my student and allowed myself to scaffold his learning. The following is the highlight from this standard:
• “plan, implement and assess developmentally appropriate learning strategies” (CECE, 2011, p.15)
• “recognize that child development milestones and behaviors vary and they acknowledge and respect those differences” (CECE, 2011, p.15)
• “provide opportunities for children to develop the skills needed to regulate their behaviour and to make decisions” (CECE, 2011, p.
15)
