Internship Journal Entry

Journal Entry This semester I feel incredibly motivated and ambitious and inspired in my internship. I can tell my supervisor is starting to trust me more. I am now able to assist clients with filling out a referral form for treatment or needs. Even though, at first, I thought this small task was not enough for my development I am starting to realize that it is important because in a sense I am building rapport with my clients and the agency I may be referring the client too. In fact, by making an appointment for clients and filling out their referral forms, I am learning that to help people to move from where they are, to where they want to be, I will need to be able to use a range of communication skills. My supervisor is also teaching me
how to not too often overlook socioeconomic factors. I am applying this skill with one of my clients that attends my learning class by asking her every session what was her way of transportation, did she feel safe, and is everything in her home going well. By me practicing how to not overlook socioeconomic factors I now have a deeper understanding of the connections that hold us together and factors that drive us apart. While I have long been engaged in these processes of growth and change, I have become embolden with new tools and a broader understanding of how power structures impacts society, groups, and individuals.
