Internship Report About Vdb
INTRODUCTION
Nowadays, Vietnam is entering the period of high speed economic growth. Clearly, one of the indispensable conditions for economic development is the need for capital. However, domestic capital source is not enough to fulfill the speed of development in this period. Therefore, it is an important task that we need to attract more effective capital from external sources.
Currently, ODA is very important capital source for the development of nations. This funding is a crucial role in the growth process and integration of Vietnam economy. The rapid development in infrastructure and transportation, one of the top priorities to be funded by ODA contributes considerably to the growth of national economy. However, ODA is not just a loan. Along with ODA, it is the biding conditions related to politics and economics, which will be a burdened debt for the next generation or become dependent on the foreign countries unless we know how to use and manage effectively ODA. On the other hand, the management and usage of ODA in our country still contain a lot of shortcomings and mistakes causing unfortunate consequences.
For this important role, the research about how to use ODA effectively is very crucial. It not only helps students accumulate and strengthen the knowledge but also promote the development and improvement of the usage of this capital
All things being considered, after 5 weeks interning in the foreign capital department of Vietnam Development Bank, I have decided to choose the topic: “ON LENDING ODA UNDER THE MANAGEMENT OF VIETNAM DEVELOPMENT BANK FROM 2008 TO 2012” as the subject of my mid-course internship report. This report is divided into 3 main parts as follows:
Chapter 1: The overview of Vietnam Development Bank (VDB)
Chapter 2: The status of on-lending ODA under the management of Vietnam Development Bank from 2008 to 2012.
Chapter 3: Suggestions to improve the management and on lending ODA in Vietnam Development Bank in next few years.

First of all, to define the economic performance of Vietnam, I will use GDP or gross domestic product as a basic to evaluate its effectiveness. According to a research of World Bank (2012), Vietnam was ranked 42nd over 178 countries with GDP (PPP) of $320.879 billion. Meanwhile, according to IMF (2012), Vietnam was ranked 51st over 178 with nominal GDP of $141.463 billion. These statistics already show a briefly look about the economic performance of Vietnam, in which can tell that, Vietnam still has a long way to achieve its ambition of becoming a strongly developed country. However, its accomplishment is remarkable.…

    2. Directed Credit Programme : Since nationalization the government has encouraged the lending to agriculture and small-scale industries at a confessional rate of interest. It is known as the directed credit programme. The committee opined that these sectors have matured and thus do not need such financial support. This directed credit programme was successful from the government's point of view but it affected commercial banks in a bad manner. Basically it deteriorated the quality of loan, resulted in a shift from the security oriented loan to purpose oriented. Banks were given a huge target of priority sector lending, etc. ultimately leading to profit erosion of banks.…
